Hopefully, the legislature is answering to the taxpayers when it is dragging it's feet to fund a new stadium. If taxpayers were for spending tax dollars for a new stadium for the Vikings, it would be easy to put a referendum on the ballot to get voter approval on a bond issue to pay for the public portion (as they did here in Cincinnati, by adding 1/2 of 1% sales tax to the existing sales tax in Hamilton County to fund new stadiums for the Reds and Bengals). My guess is the Minneapolis area residents would defeat such a referendum.
What gets me is Hennepin County raised the sales tax by 1/2% for the sole purpose of financing the Metrodome. The Metrodome has been paid off for a decade, but guess what? The 1/2% sales tax is still there. The governor should step in and tell the county that they can only use that 1/2% for what the people agreed to..., to cover a new stadium!!
