    Injuries Continue to Mount

    Viking Update Staff - Scout.com
    May 1, 2005 at 8:51am ET
The Vikings were forced inside by the unusually cold late April weather, but the injury bug continued to take a bite of the starting lineup at practice Saturday.

Traditionally, minicamp is a time when young players and new free agent signees get their first chance to shine with their new teams, but it appears as though the Vikings will have to wait until training camp to get a full look at the new squad. Thanks to a pair of injuries, nine of the 22 projected starters were sidelined.

Darren Sharper (leg) and Napoleon Harris (hamstring) were added to the list of walking wounded that missed practice time Saturday. While it doesn't raise any red flags or alarms, it would have been nice to see how the new guys would mesh with the current cast, but now it looks like we'll have to wait a little longer.

    SUNDAY NOTES
    * Ken Irvin sat out a second straight day of practice in protest of a team request that he voluntarily reduce his salary.
    * Marcus Johnson got time at both left guard and right tackle Saturday, leading some to speculate that he may not be anointed as the starting LG and could battle Mike Rosenthal in training camp for his tackle spot.
    * Raonall Smith displaced Donatarrious Thomas with the first-team defense Saturday at the Will linebacker position.
    * Erasmus James worked out with the first-team defense Saturday and matched up with Bryant McKinnie much of the day.
    * Troy Williamson had his first highlight of minicamp, bursting off the line past Fred Smoot in what turned out to be a 70-yard reception.
    * Injuries haven't been confined to the Vikings. First-round picks Mark Clayton and Pac Man Jones both suffered injuries Saturday in their first minicamps.
Wow.. Is it too late to contact Donovan Darius for his services?

They were hurt in practice. "I mean we're talking about practice here. Practice. we're talking about practice, not a game practice." A.I.

Could also be a precautionary measure. In an article at www.pioneerpress.com Tice said that if he could have he would have canceled the final mini camp practice yesterday because he had gone over what they wanted to, so they held out more players to err on the side of caution.

But because of NFL rules if a player misses a practice you must list the player on the injured list. Remember Denver got into trouble for not listed some injuries a couple of years ago so Shanahan listed the whole team and coaching staff on the injury report stubbed toes, hangnails and all. LOL

There is both good and bad with this:

    1) Williamson blows by one of the better cover corners in the NFL in his first practice.

    2) One of the better cover corners is undressed by a rookie WR in his first NFL practice!

    Just stirring the pot!

Re: Nap Harris and D. Sharper hurt at minicamp

Tice said on the Vikings Website that Darren Sharper has already proven that he is the veteran leader that the defense needs, and he was only holding him out on some of sat. and sunday as a percaution... because he was there all mini camp and does not need to work when he is not feeling 100% but he said he will be just fine! so don't worry so much... we will all be happy when Darren picks Brett off during the season!!!
