My memory of Brad Johnson
As I was driving home today and listening to sports talk, I started thinking about why I have hated Brad Johnson, and always hoped he would fail miserably.
I can't remember the year...I'm guessing it must have been 1997 or so, when Johnson was getting kind of hot for the Vikes, the pundits kept making a big dealie that Favre wasn't an MVP anymore. The one thing they kept saying was, "He may not even be the best quarterback in his own division!", with references to a johnny-come-prematurely named Brad Johnson, who had started out the season like gangbusters.
Naturally, as a Favre Acolyte, that irritated me, though not to any great deal. But I remember during the game, Brad Johnson started poking fun at Brett during the game. I don't know if the announcers even noticed it, but if you remember that sorta stupid looking fake jump-pass Favre would do after handing off, you know what I'm talking about.
During the game, Johnson had been swaggering around a bit and the announcers had been referring to him as the "better of the two".
At was at that time, I noticed Brad Johnson was mocking Brett when he handed off, copying his "jump-fake-pass" then strutting up the field after the play, chuckling to himself He did this a couple times, I think, just to try and show him up. That always irritated me, that this little punk was trying to show up my boy.
So, happy was I to say that the Packers won both games that season, and went to the Super Bowl. Johnson was injured and didn't finish the season.
As much as I hated Sapp, I wanted the Bucs to lose the Super Bowl for one huge reason...Brad Johnson, who just had to go in and not screw up and get a ring.
Not trying to irritate anyone...just seeing his kick-hold-bobbling jiggly butt back in a Viking uniform last weekend made me reminisce. Thought I'd share.Have you ever seen a race of turtles, and they all go the wrong way instead of towards the finish line?
Welcome to the NFC North.

But, Favre can still make stupid things sort of cool.
After all, he made Bill Schroeder sort of cool for a couple years...Have you ever seen a race of turtles, and they all go the wrong way instead of towards the finish line?

I didn't know that, but now I like Brad even more.
I wish he would have stayed with the Vikes and Denny would have made him the starter again, I think we would have been much better for it.

lol, no shat! That doesn't even begin to make up for the # of times that John Madden would be covering a game other than the Packers, jamming turduckens down his throat, and mentioning Brett Favre religiously, almost obsessively while doing the commentary....

Ditto that! Players are supposed to have a little fun with the game. I think Moss topped Brad with the fake moon though! :lol:I didn't know that, but now I like Brad even more.

The problem with Johnson back then was he was getting injured constantly. Ironically, he hasn't been injured since!
