Re: Murphy promoted to lead Vikings special teams
You guys need to relax, if Brian Murphy wasn't ready for the job Childress wouldn't have hired him. I find it hard to believe that Childress handed him the job, my opinion is that Murphy impressed in the formal interview, told Childress how he wanted to opporate, what he was going to do ect.
When I look at the majority of our specail teams problems its from an execution standpoint. Staying in gaps, tackling, directional kicking, ect. These things can all be corrected, we'll add some new talent to the group and push foward. 09 stands on its own marits.

Re: Murphy promoted to lead Vikings special teams
With Farwell back I think it will help him out alot
Erin Henderson, Heath Farwell and Hussain Abdullah should make alot of noise on special teams next year

The Vikings’ offseason program won’t begin until April 6, but talking to new special teams coordinator Brian Murphy tonight it sounds like he’s ready to go. The Vikings are set with punter Chris Kluwe and kicker Ryan Longwell but there is no doubt the kickoff and punt coverage and return units need to show improvement in 2009. (The Vikings gave up an NFL record seven returns for touchdowns this season.) Murphy, who had been the special teams assistant to Paul Ferraro for three seasons, made it clear in his interview with coach Brad Childress that there is no time to waste.

Brian Murphy might have spent the past three seasons as the assistant to Vikings special teams coordinator Paul Ferraro, but that didn't change the way he approached his job....

Re: Murphy promoted to lead Vikings special teams
Murphy said he went through a formal interview with Childress during which he "took him through from scratch" how he would approach things.Hopefully it's for the better.Murphy might have worked under Ferraro but it's clear he wants to put his own stamp on some things.

Brian Murphy has been named the Vikings Special Teams Coordinator, a position he had assisted with for the past 3 seasons. Murphy served as Special Teams Coordinator/OLBs coach at Wisconsin from 2002-05 before joining the Vikings staff in 2006....

Re: Murphy promoted to lead Vikings special teams
I think Murphy will refocus our special team units, and bring a little passion to the guys he coaches. We can't get any worse than last year, and with a coaching change comes refocused attention. We will be much improved next season.
