    Mock Offseason- My realistic prediction

It's almost never to early to talk offseason. Especially when your a fan of the Vikings.Let me break down a couple of things before I move on.
1- Even if we make it to the playoffs or break .500 (or both) we will be drafting in the low to mid teens again, and this will be an interesting draft.
2- With blackouts looming, and ticket sales possibly at an all time low, Zigi Wilf realizes that he put a little too much confidence in Spielman relying on FA agent sleepers to be great starters instead of just getting some big name players ( P. Kerney for example). Dont get me wrong, i like the direction the organization is going and also pleased with Shiancoe and B. Wade but let's just face the fact that Spielman and Childress were WAY to conservative this offseason. That will change, Bet on it.
3- The QB position- we should be a playoff team this year and showing poor judgement in TJ's developement just verifys my previous point.

First I will break down FA, then the 1st 2 picks of the draft. I expect a lot of debate and thats what this is all about. Enjoy!

    Big Players in FA:

    CB Asante Samuel- 7 years
Seems big? Unrealistic? We have the leagues WORST pass defense people! Yes, he will command a lot of $ but wilf is like a smart Daniel Snyder, he will spend the money but for the right players under the right system. If Winfield is still with the team he will start opposite or move to safety. Personally, I think he's gone ( more on that later ). This is a great cover guy and is physical as well as a playmaker.Great signing.

    QB Chad Pennington- 3 years
Again, BIG mistake not taking care of this last offseason. With Chad losing his job and earning starters salary, he will be waived or we trade a second day pick for him ( 4th or 5th ). This would be a perfect fit for this system. Pennington has proven that with a strong running game and a great line he will win, pure and simple.

    RT Max Starks- 5 years
He's 6'7,337, very athletic and is'nt even starting. The Steelers have a lot of OL depth and will let Starks test the market. This would be a great pick-up for us as he will get lots of attention around the league. Cook will serve as a good reserve.
( other options- Alan Faneca , Jordan Gross )

    WR Larry Fitzgerald- 5 years
    or Chad Johnson 5 years
All of this talk about being interested in one of these guys could be just that. But if this were to go down with either of these guys this is the scenario:
We will trade our 2nd rouder to either team with one of our DE's ( E. James, Udeze , R. Edwards ) along with possibly Winfield after we sign Asante, or D. Thomas instead.Either way these 2 teams ( Bengals , Cardinals ) do not need more draft picks. Fortunately for us with all of our depth ,they are in desperate need of defense and we will not lose a 1st rounder.
( another possibility if neither of these happen-Mike Furrey via trade )

    1st two draft picks :

    Round #1
    Brian Brohm, QB Louisville
Every draft a QB will slip and I think it will be Brohm. Everyone thinks that Patrino will draft his collage QB, but it's speculated that Patrino could return to collage after the season and Matt Ryan should be the pick anyway. Besides, I believe we will be picking in the mid to high teens anyway and Ryan will be long gone. Woodson is also a possibility or no QB at all with the signing of Pennington. The team and staff still is sold on TJ and may look to keep developing him.
( Other possibilities- Sedric Ellis DT USC, Reggie Smith S Oklahoma, Vernon Gholston DE, Ohio St. )

    Round #2 -
Traded for L. Fitzgerald or C. Johnson

    Round #3
    Terrell Thomas CB USC
Great value if he slips to the 3nd round ( wont show blazing speed in combine). Antoine Winfield will not be a Viking next season. It pains me to say it but there has been some dissention between him and Childress and also lack of confidence in the organization. Hopefully the previous signings happen and things get squared away. If not, he's gone and we use this pick for more depth.

Thats all I've got for now , thanks for reading.

Interesting. You know a lot about personnel.

My first thought is no to the possible free agents in that list except maybe Larry Fitzgerald.

Asante Samuel is overrated. It's the system he's in that makes him look good.

My preference on the QB issue is: keep TJack as starter of the future. Think about getting a FA QB to play for a year. Keep Brooks Bollinger as a backup QB. Get a fourth QB out of the draft in the late rounds as insurance/future tradebait. Keep all four QBs on the roster. It's too important a position not to have four on the roster.

    Go Vikings!

Pennington is another limp wrist like Brad Johnson was... we don't need a QB throwing underneath pulling the safeties even closer to the line.
If we go after anyone, it will be McNabb.

I agree, a veteran CB would be a good addition.
Take some pressure off Griffith (or is it Griffin?) and McC... let them play more Nickle and grow that way.

Chad Johnson will not be joining the Vikings.
Childress will not bring an attitude like that to this team.
Billichek may be able to handle Randy in NE (while they're winning all their games) but I don't believe the Vikings or Childress are ready for that in MN.
Fitz would be a good pickup though I'm not sure our current receivers are incapable of stepping it up next year.

Why would we draft a QB?
We already have a young QB to grow.
If we draft a QB we'd cut TJack.
    I don't see that happening.

I'd like to see us pick up a RT.
I really believe football games are won with the offensive line.
I can not remember the last SB winner without one, maybe the Ravens?
The true measure of a man is what he'd do knowing he'd never be found out.

    Mock Offseason

    MY prediction:

After rising from the ashes and winning the Super Bowl the vikings use all of the cap room that Brzyzynski has squirreled away and spend the money and draft choices on a offensive right tackle, a right defensive end sack specialist, a tall deep WR threat and the rest on the secondary and we go on to win the rest of the Super Bowls of the decade and make the rest of the country forget about NE, GB and Dallas.

    ;D

Now that we have that out of the way lets focus on the Lions.

This is a good post that you put a lot of time in effort into.
Unfortunately I don't think a lot of people are going to agree with you, myself included.
We do not know what a "realistic" offseason scenario is until the season is completely over.
If TJ pulls out a quality stretch of games here and we make the playoffs, then we may not go after a QB at all.

You have us going after Pennington and Brohm.
No way that happens since we all know Childress is around for at least one more year (according to Wilf), and TJ is his boy.

Ryan Cook has been improving as well, and I don't think we'd pay Starks the money he wants.
Hererra was just extended as well, making me believe that Faneca is out of the equation also.

    A. Samuel is the best bet here IMO.
Our pass defense is horrendous and he would be an upgrade over any CB we have now, including Winfield.

I think we first go WR or Saftey in the draft, OL, CB, or DT next w/ the outside chance of getting OLB Erin Henderson (E.J.'s brother).
Rock out with your cock out!!!

Thanks for the compliment. Andyes it did take a lot of time cause I cant type worth a damn. Anyway,Childress only having a year is exactly why they will bring in a vet QB to save his job. I'm not ruling out Jackson completely, just Brohm will be tough to pass on.
Not really so sure on Cook though. Good thing theres a lot of OT on the market this year.
Dont see a high pick on a WR if we trade for one. If not QB, we go DE,S CB DT.

Brohm won't even be on the board anymore by the time we pick.

Hmm...I'd actually bet on us getting a defensive end this offseason.
It's actually a strong FA class at that position.
