Vikings Stadium: Not a word, not a hearing, not a chance

Article Last Updated: 03/24/2008 03:02:13 PM CDT

Vikings Stadium / Not a word, not a hearing, not a chance. The Minnesota Vikings are on the backburner in their quest for a new stadium. Only one bill has been offered. And it ties stadium dollars to another seemingly lead balloon: a state-backed casino. The Vikings ownership hasn't presented a financing package that passes muster with state officials. For their part, budget-minded state leaders don't seem interested in seriously discussing the stadium situation until 2009 at the earliest.

In all honesty, it isn't bursting any bubbles.
Both articles, and the one I posted from Minnesota Momentum, are saying the same thing.
The best chance for the Vikings to get a new stadium is in the 2009 legislative stadium.
The only difference is that the two from the Vikings are saying that they are going to gear up the campaign for a strong run in 2009, and the one from twincities.com tries to put a negative spin on it.

Zygi is a smart business man. He knows that trying to push a stadium bill through now wont work.
It is an election year, and few legislators want to support a bill that offers a tax increase during an economic slow down.
Plus, the Vikings didn't make the playoffs last year.

In 2009, many legislators will be on their first year of the term, and are often more willing to support tax increases.
Plus if the Vikigns make a playoff push, we will have more credit when asking for state money.
And it gives the Vikings a full year to put a financial plan in place and float it through public circles for feedback.
Even though no legislator will officially consider a financial plan until 2009, they will certainly make themselves aware of it if it is out there, and the Vikings can get feedback before throwing it into the ring.

Re: Minnesota Vikings Stadium Update From Zygi Wilf (via Minnesota Momentum)

An improving football team, a detailed stadium plan and leadership from the MSFC are all contributing to the stadium issue moving forward; nonetheless, given the feedback the Vikings have received from state leaders, it is clear a stadium decision will not be reached in 2008. Instead, the Governor and Legislative Leadership told NFL executives visiting Minnesota that 2009 is the year to resolve this issue. The Vikings will work with these state leaders to ensure the project stays on this timeline.

Re: Minnesota Vikings Stadium Update From Zygi Wilf (via Minnesota Momentum)

We'll probably play in the Gophers Stadium until our new one is built... ala the Cardinals playing at Sun Devil's Stadium.

I don't really see what everyone's so worked up about. These things take time. The bridge collapse was a tragedy that had to be dealt with first.
Disclaimer: I'm an idiot.
