Thread: Metrodome still gives us an advantage...

The concourses are too small, you have to piss in a trough, and there aren't enough high revenue seats to offset a competitive player roster.
But there is one thing that the Metrodome still has: Noise.

When we build the new stadium, this is something that needs to be kept in consideration.
The colts recently came under fire for their very nice, but QUIET, new stadium.

During the Sunday game at the LOS, Madden noted that the Colts fans were no factor in the game. Bill Simmons - noted Pat homer over on ESPN - has this to say:

I'd like to personally thank the Colts for a building a state-of-the-art football stadium that sounds as dead as every other state-of-the-art football stadium and willingly giving away two or three victories per season. Does Kyle Orton stroll into the Hoosier Dome and win on a Sunday night? In a million years?

I don't understand why the Colts would make such a stupid design blunder by eliminating the clear and controversial home field noise advantage of the RCA Dome. As difficult as it is to win on the field in the NFL, lately the Colts team is battling againt front office and executive decisions that just make things more difficult.

When I was down at the UoP for the superbowl, I noticed the same thing.
The stadium was quiet.
Even though we were all screaming our dimply buttocks off, and I left with NO voice, my ears were never ringing.
There is nothing like sitting in the dome when the opposing team has a fourth and short, and the crowd is screaming.
You can feel the oxygen being depleted in the high rows.
Your ears ring from the noise.
You don't even bother screaming words anymore because they are lost in the horrendous cacophony of the screaming crowd.
You just resort to primal screaming, hand clapping, pillar pounding, etc... anything to add even more noise to the jet-engine like atmosphere.

I love that.
I do NOT want to lose it in the new stadium.
Let's make sure we remind the Colts what a LOUD crowd can bring to the game on Sunday.

I do wish this, however - when the Dome roars for the defense, they often shut right up once the play starts - I'd like them to keep going right through the play and keep being that 12th man until the whistle blows.

not on my watch they don't.... which is why I usually have little or no voice on the Monday. Often my missus has to do all the talking at the airport when we fly back on a Tuesday

There's a reason why the Dome is loud and the crowd there needs to remind the Colts what they have lost.

If things start going sour just fill the dome with urine and drown Manning and crew out of there.

It seems like it could somewhat throw something off with the QB

We do that just to try to mess with him adjustments and pre snaps but we need to continue

Lambeau is nice, but not nearly as loud. Plus the line for the bathroom were just as long, and not much better than the dome. I didn't get any where near the suites, so those don't do anything for me. All together I don't think a new stadium will change the game day experience much. The best part was smoking in the concourse, while watching the game on tv.(unlike the dome where they push you outside in a way to small fenced in area and don't have any broadcast of the game).

I would like to see the dome get louder earlier in the play clock. It doesn't really get loud until the the offense breaks the huddle, by that time they have a play called, if
we were louder while they are still in the huddle it could make life more difficult for the apposing team.(manning calls the play at the line so this game might be the exception).

the bathroom lines were way better in Lambeau.
I think I pissed like 5 times during the game and the farthest back in line I was, was during half time when I was the third guy.
There were bathrooms all around the concourse.

I hated that
more than anything...probably how other teams feel about our horn.

This year I am going to get in their faces and try to pump them up.
If they are behind me, instead of chearing towards the field, I am going to turn around and just yell and scream at them.
We need noise, and we need to keep it coming before, during, and after the play.

I wonder if there have been any studies on this? I'm guessing a lot more people are drinking for a monday night game than a sunday noon game, might have closed the gap some there. I guess if I had to piss 5 times a game the lines would be a bigger deal, just doesn't seem like a big deal to me even at the dome.
