All right Johnny, quit tossing and turning and wetting the bed. Here it is:

SKULL:This explanation of the word "skull" in the English language may not be etymologically correct, but it's a story worth repeating. The fierce Norse warriors, forever drunk on ale, had a particularly barbaric way of celebrating their conquests. They would drink strong ale from the boiled craniums of their foes, toasting their victory with the word "Skol" (thus "skull")!

"Shale" comes from the Old English root "scael" that also evolved into "shell," "scale," "skull," and the Norse toast "Skol" (allegedly a reference to the Viking habit of drinking from skulls).

"Skol!"

Skol is a Scandinavian toast. In other countries the translation is:
