"As an organization we were in a tough spot," McCarthy said. "I can honestly say during that time, I had two things on my mind: To make sure to respect the organization and not disrespect Brett Favre. I felt we did that.

During that Favre saga over there in Green Bay, I distinctly remember seeing a clip of Ted Thompson saying they were moving on. And later that day or a day or so later, I saw a press conference where McCarthy said Brett would be welcome if he came back.http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com...ect-for-favre/

There was another presser the next day where McCarthy did an about face and said the organization was going in another direction.
I truly believe the decision was Ted's and McCarthy wanted his 13-3 QB back for one more year.
Yes I believe he does respect Brett.
In fact, he hasn't done too well since, has he now?“What takes a quarterback to the next level is not arm strength or mobility or any of that stuff. It’s the ability to play on critical downs. Manage third downs, or red zones or four-minute or two-minute situations"
