Marcus Johnson to start

Vikings coach Mike Tice solidified his offensive line for the season opener, naming Marcus Johnson his starting right guard and Chris Liwienski his starting left guard for Minnesota’s game against Tampa Bay on Sept. 11.
Johnson played right guard at Ole Miss, and the second-round draft choice stepped in at the position for Liwienski, who was nursing a shoulder sprain, on Friday against New York. Tice liked what he saw enough to give Johnson the nod for game one of the regular season.
“Marcus certainly looked like a different player on the right side, Tice said. “His performance level from when he was in at left guard to right guard went up 25 percent and he had no padded practices at right guard. He looks more comfortable, feels more comfortable.
I think this is great news, i'm glad that goldberg isn't starting because he gets a flag every other play and i don't think johnson has got one yet

Man, I have been saying this for awhile. I don't get why Tice tried to move Lewinski over to RG, when he did just fine at LG last year and he drafted Marcus Johnson who played RG in college? That didn't make much sense to me, to switch them both. This makes a little more sense.
Oh yeah, and Marcus Johnson did get flagged for holding in the last game, not that it's a big deal.

Good! I'm looking forward to them getting back to their normal positions...hopefully they will end the penalties!

They may have thought that the ROOKIE was more of a natural talent than he really is, that he could easily do either RG or LG. Is that GOOD or BAD?

Re: Marcus Johnson to start
Hallelujah!!! Tice finally realized that MJ is the man and moved Lewinski back to where he started last year! Goldberg will be a good backup...nothing more! MJ is the future NOW at RG!!! I think we will be solid now...but I would still like to see Big Dave Dixon back with the Vikes for our Super Bowl run!!!
Good to see you back on the board, snow!!! :grin:BANNED OR DEAD...I'LL TAKE EITHER ONE

Re: Marcus Johnson to start
Good move. Liwinskie is very good and I like him protecting Daunte's blind side. I would like to see someone other than Johnson starting, because I'm not sure that he's quite ready, but I don't think that Goldberg is the answer, so I'm happy with MJ starting now under the circumstances. As long as Birk is there by the season opener, the O-line will be fine.

Thanks PPE for the sig.

Re: Marcus Johnson to start
I am really happy with this move and think that this was one of our better picks of the draft.
