    Ltrey Has a Take

It's been a long time since I started a thread on this board, and I understand that this same discussion is taking place elsewhere, but I need to get my two cents out there. (Moderators, please bear with me.)

The start to this season sucks. I don't need to tell any of you that. 0-2 is not where we wanted to be, and I'm not here to paint a rosy picture of the team that we have. But as a wise man once said (actually no one has said this), two games does not a season make.

We can be optimistic for a few reasons:

    1) This same team went 11-5 last year. Yes, we were a little healthier, but with Detroit and a bye coming up, we will have a chance to get our legs back under us and sort some of this crap out. Hopefully Sid will come back at some point this season too. But the core of the team, both lines, the linebacking corps, the quarterback, etc. are still here. A good team does not start to suck overnight. Last year was enchanted, but that doesn't mean that we will be 3-13 this year.

    2) We lost both games by less than a touchdown....and lost the turnover battle in both. That means that the Vikings were ONE play away from winning BOTH games. The Harvin acrobatics at the goal line yesterday, the poor choice by AD to pick the hole between the tackle and the guard....if one of those two plays goes our way, we are sitting at 1-1 right now. IF the offense can come up with just one more play a game, a tiny bit more explosiveness, the running game and the defense is good enough to get us back into contention.

    3) This is a veteran team. This team has been around a long time. Favre is the ancient of days, Peterson is in his 4th year....we have vets on both lines and in the defensive secondary. This isn't a young team that will roll over and die because things get a little rough.

    4) We have not yet lost inside of the division. That division record is SO important, and if we can right the ship in time to face the Bears or the Pack, we'll be in good shape.

So I am putting it out there....the Vikings will get back on track and get to 10-6. We'll be in the playoffs. Don't be chicken littles. Have hope. Root for your damn team without being negative.

I agree totally, except for the 10-6.

That's not gonna happen. It will be a miracle if we win eight.

The opponents are going to get a lot tougher.

    Re: Ltrey Has a Take

Yep, we finished 11-5 alright, but that was after a 2-0 start.

We are 0-2 right now & if we finish the rest of the season in the same fashion as we did last year, that puts us at 9-7 & probably not in a position to win the NFCN, unless we win most our divisional games.

Keep in mind too, that Favre had an amazing year last year to help us finish 11-5. Critics & Favre have said it was his best year ever.

I don't think Favre is going to top that or even match that, especially with the loss of Rice & Harvin dinged up every week.

Adding V-Jack will definitely help, but I think finishing 11-5 is a stretch.

As I stated in a different thread, prior to the start of the season, I think 9-7 is where we'll be at.

    Here's the thing.

    We're 0-2.

    That's a fact.

We can have a lot of fun winning seven or eight games from this point on.

Playoffs and especially Superbowls.....don't come along all that often.

    Relax, everybody.

I'm not as confident in the price for the trade for Jackson (Rams reported to still be interested), contract and his current conditioning (no training camp and cannot be with the team training during his DUI suspension, could he be a Darrell Revis hammy injury waiting to happen) and when can he hit the field week 4, 5 or is it 7.

Also more concerned about his attitude, more so than Koren Robinson when he came to the Vikings or Jared Allen with their past DUI problems because of the way this whole holdout has gone with him I guess. I get the feeling he is a high risk, high cost, possible delayed fix, one year contract (short term), and he isn't familiar with our team or system.

On a sidebar the Vikes have already had enough guys miss too much training camp

He would be eligible to return for Game 5 vs. the Cowboys ... he would have 3 full weeks of practice leading up to that.
