Looks like Heath Farwell has torn ACL
This is a link to a StarTrib column.
http://www.startribune.com/sports/vikings/26451294.html?elr=KArksi8cyaiU9PmP:QiUiD3aPc:_Yyc: aULPQL7PQLanchO7DiU
In the article it quotes Childress as saying that Farwell might have torn an ACL.
From somebody that completely tore his ACL about 2 months ago and I tore my other ACL about 20 years ago, he is probably done for the year.
That is 3 linebackers in the 1st preseason game in 3 years.
This sucks we needed him on special teams and he was also a good backup linebacker.
Jayme Mitchell also has a knee injury but was not speculation on his injury.
What we've got here is failure to communicate.

I like what he contributed last year and was looking forward to seeing him in the rotation a bit this year.
As JJ says, we are deep at LB.
He won't be missed to much is my guess and it makes some of our LB cuts/decisions a bit easier now. Many many thanks to my talented friend Jos for the new Sig.

I don't think we are that deep at linebacker.
Erin Henderson -
undrafted rookie
Jason Leeman - undrafted rookie
Rufus Alexander - missed his whole rookie year because of a knee injury.
Vinny Ciuriu
- good backup
Derrick Pope
-
FA played for Fins had a good year last year.
David Harron
-
2nd year player we signed from the Pat's practice squad.
I think we are looking thin and losing Farwell really hurts!
Jayme Mitchell also hurt ihis knee but I haven't seen anything on him yet.
Michael Boulware got hurt but I haven't seen anything on his injury.
What we've got here is failure to communicate.

Not only are we not that deep at the position, they are gonna need to step up as a unit in the passing game too.

Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent

It isn't like we are looking to have starters backing up starters.
We are looking to have some nice depth behind our starters that can come in during certain circumstances to give our guys a breather as well as to add some tacklers on ST's.
Erin Henderson -
undrafted rookie
He played well last night.
Should be a decent player on ST's and add some depth.
Jason Leeman - undrafted rookie
Saw him in the middle last night.
Seemed to make some nice plays.
Again, nice depth.
Rufus Alexander - missed his whole rookie year because of a knee injury.
Made some damn nice plays last night (didn't like how he celebrated after each of them though).
Look to see him provide immediate impact as we saw with Chad last year and possibly come in on obvious passing situations as he can run/cover WR's (like he did last night when they had him split wide).
Vinny Ciuriu
- good backup
Isn't that what we are talking about?
Derrick Pope
-
FA played for Fins had a good year last year.
Adds good depth.
Will contribute on ST's.
David Harron
-
2nd year player we signed from the Pat's practice squad
I don't have much to say about this guy but he seemed to be around the ball a little last night.
Quick question, which of these cats would be out of football if they were released?
My guess is that almost all of them would find work doing exactly what we are asking them to do.
ST's and depth. Many many thanks to my talented friend Jos for the new Sig.

Astute observations there Marr.....you are dead on.
It is very rare to have started backing up starters.
What you want is solid performance and some flexibility from your reserves.
It would be nice that reserves have the potential to be starters as they progress, but what you need is solid performance from them.
In response to your question, everyone of of these guys will have a job in football if they were not a Viking would be my guess.
I have liked what I have seen from all of them though.
Losing Farwell will hurt though, but someone will step in.
Remember Farwell was also an Undrafted Free Agent

On a sidenote, does anyone know how many and what types of medical staff are employed by the typical NFL team?

Re: Looks like Heath Farwell has torn ACL
This is really sad...
Heath comes out and works hard for the last few years and when he has been quoted as one of, if not the best special teams player in the game, he tears his ACL trying to accomplish his next goal and that was start at LB.
It is sad and it will hurt this team...
