Re: Looking into 2011, 2012 -- what now Vikings fans?

I don't believe we are in "rebuild" situation as of yet. We have talent on the team, and have some depth. I think the fact that we may lose some players, is a testament to the fact we drafted good players. Hopefully we can continue to do that, and some of our players on the bench can step in and fill those roles.

Add some free agents in there, and possible trades to accumulate picks or additional needs, and maybe we are not Super Bowl favorites, but doubt we are the bottom of the pool.

Of course, it really does depend on what we do for a coach. Schemes could change, changing personnel. I think coaching more than anything could determine whether we are "rebuilding" or not.

We may have to do some "remodeling", but I do not think we are "rebuilding".

    Just my thoughts.

Good call. That's where this should start. The foundation to long term success often is a talented GM.

Get ready to move to LA. So I guess that would be sideways.

Interesting article. Long term thinking is going to be required.
I think early in the Chilly era they did this. Not overspending older players, and instead focusing on building through the draft and picking up youngn players in free agency. The last couple years though it has been all about winning now.

Re: Looking into 2011, 2012 -- what now Vikings fans?

I am all for building for the future and establishing an identity that reflects the team as a whole and not just the coach Du Jour. So with that said i really want them to define the leadership structure by either elevating Spielman or Brzezinski to the GM position or hiring one from outside the organization and then starting from scratch by building the roster to what they want it to be and by hiring a coach that can coach whatever system they decide to run.

I am never a fan of losing but at this point after teetering back and forth between 5-11 and 12-4 over the past 30+ years with a 15-1 thrown in there but no Super Bowl appearances I am willing to look at just gutting the team even if it takes a few years of 2-14 to get the picks we need in order to get an elite nucleus including a franchise QB and putting some young elite talent around them.

I for one am ready to endure a few really bad seasons if they can make some radical changes and get us a nucleus that can take us to the next level. Of course that type of thing always comes with some risk involved if the players don't pan out but in the end I would rather swing for the fences and miss then bask in the glow of mediocrity.

keeping Rice and Greenway is an absolute necessity...

At QB, Obviously we're all interested to see how Joe Webb does. I don't mind Kolb but I'm not sure what it would take to get him.
