Re:Lloyd hopes Vikings have room for two kickers

I think the Vikings do need two kickers, one to kick the football and the other to kick Favre's arse all the way back to Minnesota.

He definitely needs to start booming it next game or the front office may use the spot for someone else.

I think they had every intention of having two kickers on the roster, but if we are not consistently getting touchbacks and/or 2-3 yards deep with hang time, then I think he may end up out in the cold.

I didn't see any of the kickoffs last night. I did look at the play-by-play and noticed that Longwell kicked it 68 and 69 yards with what must have been decent coverage as they stopped them at the 21 and 22. Lloyd is listed as kicking it 71, 72, 72, and 73 yards with the Rams actually getting better starting field position.

So, if anyone did watch this part of the game... What's your take? What was the hang-time like for each kicker? How about where they put it in terms of a corner or the middle of the field?

Lloyd had a bit more hangtime

Longwell's best kick was to the endzone with it being a line drive

If Lloyd doesn't start booting them into the endzone he may not make it
    ????

Lloyd was kicking them into the endzone. The exception I saw was when he kicked it to the 1 yard line, but that was after a 5 yard penalty was applied before the kick.

I didn't see the opening KO, because they were showing the end of *&%$*$@! golf.
Who the hell was showing golf over football???

Surprised Marrdro is not in this thread. Oh wait, no I am not.

    Rhys:
    Average Receiving Point -.75
    Average Starting Point 27.25
    Average Return 28

    LONGwell:
    Average Receiving Point 1.5
    Average Starting Point 21.5
    Avereage Return 20

My take....I am not seeing anything yet that proves Rhys is any better than Longwell and worth a spot on the roster. Just maybe ole mars is correct when he said our coverage team is the problem and not the kicker.

Two kickers? Try three, I definitely put the punter into the kicker group. No, there is not room for three kickers. Then again, Z has only Ks on his FF team.

I liked his hangtime and the couple extra yards.. However, if that's all he brings in a couple extra yards a game i'd rather keep a skill position player

We have tons of quality D-lineman that won't make it.. LBs that are promising and can help on ST's.. Couple WRs or a RB i'd like to keep over him[/quote]

Good post, i agree that Lloyd needs to step up on his performance in St Louis if he hopes to secure a spot as i dont see us making room for 2 kickers when we are overly loaded at other positions.

Most important thing to take there:

    Rhys:
    Average starting point: 27.25

    Longwell:
    Average Starting point: 21.5

We bring in Lloyd to make teams start from the 20 right? Not the 27.25. Longwell was far better.

    This should make Marrdro happy.....

Childress said he wasn't pleased with the way PK Ryan Longwell kicked off on Sunday. Longwell's first kickoff -- out of a hold after the ball blew off the tee -- was fielded at the 3-yard line and returned 27 yards. The second was fielded at the 5 and returned 31 yards. "We could kick the ball off better," Childress said. Rhys Lloyd, who remains the favorite to handle kickoff duties, attempted a failed onside kick in his only chance.

I felt like Chilly was kicking with Longwell because he wanted Longwell to show him he did not need to use two spots on a kicker.

Ryan failed ... I imagine we will see both of them kickoff in the next game ... hopefully a couple times each.
