I know this does not mean shit but it is funny. I am going to laugh my ass off if he does not make the team. Lots of crow to be eaten when that happens.
I didn't get this. There aren't very many plausible reasons why Longwell would be ahead of Lloyd specifically for kickoff duties. That doesn't mean I think that the Vikings will definitely keep him, just that it's hard to believe Longwell is outperforming Lloyd in that area and no one has noticed this until just now.

So I took a look at the Vikings website (link). It appears to have the updated depth chart (Sage ahead of Webb, Favre not reporting, Allen ahead of Sheppard). On the Vikings site, they only list one kicker spot. It makes sense that if you were just going to list one kicker position, Longwell would be first.

My guess is that Judd or whoever was typing it out added the kickoff position. Of course, it could have been e-mailed out that way by the Vikings, or released some other way that is not reflected on the website. But my thinking is that if Longwell were really killing the ball on kickoffs or Lloyd were really struggling, we would have heard about it.

I happen to like the idea of having a kickoff specialist to team with Longwell, so I hope it works out and he makes the team. But even if he doesn't, I would be surprised if it came about because Longwell suddenly became great on kickoffs (which would be fine too).

Who told you to use logic on this site? LOL. I saw on one site were they had the QBs listed this way....

    Starter TJ
    Backup Sage
    Third String Webb
Fourth String The Noodle (actually didnt say the Noodle)
Many many thanks to my talented friend Jos for the new Sig.http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v343/josdin00/Vikings/Marrdro_sig.jpg

Is that the same logic that said we should draft a DT in the 1st? lol

Re:Lloyd hopes Vikings have room for two kickers

I didn't see any of the kickoffs last night. I did look at the play-by-play and noticed that Longwell kicked it 68 and 69 yards with what must have been decent coverage as they stopped them at the 21 and 22. Lloyd is listed as kicking it 71, 72, 72, and 73 yards with the Rams actually getting better starting field position.

So, if anyone did watch this part of the game... What's your take? What was the hang-time like for each kicker? How about where they put it in terms of a corner or the middle of the field?

Lloyd had a bit more hangtime

Longwell's best kick was to the endzone with it being a line drive

If Lloyd doesn't start booting them into the endzone he may not make it

Re:Lloyd hopes Vikings have room for two kickers

And in regards to last year I didn't see a problem with our kick coverage with Longwell besides the Saints game

I still personally don't want to keep 2 kickers on the roster.. Save the spot for a guy like Reynaud or an extra WR or LB

Lloyd was kicking them into the endzone. The exception I saw was when he kicked it to the 1 yard line, but that was after a 5 yard penalty was applied before the kick.

I didn't see the opening KO, because they were showing the end of *&%$*$@! golf.

Yah he was barely gettin em in there.. I truely think for him to make it he needs to have a real strong preseason and start forcing some touchbacks.. 1-2 yards into the endzone won't do it

    I agree with this.

From listening to people on here, it makes you think that Lloyd is so good, that he boots it 83 yards through the endzone, giving the returner no chance to return. Most returners will take it out if its only a couple yards deep. That doesn't help us at all.

Lloyd had kicks of 72, 71, 73, 72 (this one was after a pentaly, and landed on the 3 yard line)

Average of 72 yards, NONE of them were touchbacks.

    They were returned to the:
    24, for 26 yards
    26 for 27 yards
    20, for 23 yards (nullified)
    39 for 36 yards

    Average starting position: 27.25
Average return length: 28 yard line.

Not exactly stats worthy of keeping an extra kicker, especially at the cost of potentially hurting your field goal kickers production.

HOWEVER! Rhys Lloyd had a sack!? WTF? What happened there? Or is taht just a mistake on nfl.com?

    Excellent post

He's gotta pick it up next game.. We brought him in for touchbacks.. 1-3 yards deep won't justify keeping him on the roster

I liked his hangtime and the couple extra yards.. However, if that's all he brings in a couple extra yards a game i'd rather keep a skill position player

We have tons of quality D-lineman that won't make it.. LBs that are promising and can help on ST's.. Couple WRs or a RB i'd like to keep over him

And yes, that's gotta be an error haha
