Re: Little help all... first Viking game

I'm an out of towner but figured I'd answer from my limited experience since no one else has yet.
I've been to a few game (1 of then a Wild Card game) and stay downtown near the University (Radisson).
I rented a car but rarely used it as I has a free shuttle to and from the game.
And there's plenty to do within walking distance of the University.
Still would probably rent a car again just for convenience and just in case I did want to go somewhere (Mall, etc)
Radisson is nice but can be expensive (but most downtown hotels are.)

Can't answer as to local hotels and restaurant but maybe others will

    You'll have a blast at a play-off game. Enjoy!

Re: Little help all... first Viking game

I've been home for a few games.

    1. I got a rental car anytime I stayed close to the dome.
That way I had trans to things that I coldn't walk to (i.e. Family/Dinner etc) that wasn't happening downtown.
    2. I like to stay at the Best Western Normandy Inn.
Offers shuttle service to and from airport.
Within walking distance to the dome as well as close to rail stop.
    3. I haven't eaten downtown so I will defer to the local PPO'rs for help in this one.

    a.
I have stayed out by the Mall as well as downtown.
Just because of the mass of people that leave after the game, I opt to pay a bit more for the downtown hotel.
Allows a more relaxed approach to getting home.
Typically I stop at the PPO tailgate spot and try to mooch at least one more beer or two before I head back to the hotel to watch a few more quarters of football before I head out for dinner with family.

    b. I let Wildwoman drive or we ride with someone else Sunday evening.
Don't want to do something foolish like get in a accident or something.

    c.
    Link with the PPO crew.
I can tell you that the times I've been home since joining this site have been more enjoyable than the ones I didn't.
    They absolutely treat you well.

    d.
Don't plan it out to the enth detail.
Have a general idea about what you want to do, however, rolling with it sometimes makes it more fun.
Many many thanks to my talented friend Jos for the new Sig.http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v343/josdin00/Vikings/Marrdro_sig.jpg

    Awesome present!

    1. I prefer public transportation if you are going to be staying downtown.
Have you given any thought to staying at the Mall of America though?
Lots more to do, and there is a light rail that goes from the airport to the mall, and from the mall to the metrodome for game day.
Getting back after a game is usually a zoo though, that is one drawback.
Also, if you are looking for a luxury hotel, downtown will give you more options

    2. Hotel Ivy is one of the nicer hotels in downtown IMHO.
I've also stayed in the Westin Minneapolis before.
It was renovated out of an old bank building, and it is very nice.
Can't help you with the Foshay.

    3. Depends on what kind of food you are in to.
The Wife and I are pretty big into sushi, and both Origami and Kikugawa are good in Minneapolis.
I would steer clear of Ichiban's unless you want to overpay for an average meal and poor entertainment.
The locals might be able to give you some better advice here.

    4. Come to tailgating! You can't go to a Vikings game without tailgating with PP.O!
One of the best parts of the day.
