Trade back if Mack isn't there.. Take defense - Gilbert, Dennard, Mosley, Barr.

Use the extra second or one of the two thirds and a sixth to move back into the first round and grab the QB that falls.

It's Spielman. I wouldn't rule out the possibility. After all, he did want Ponder, resigned T-Jack, brought in McNabb & brought in Feeley in Miami to be the Dolphins franchise QB.
Ouch! That track record hurts!! Son of aaaaa

My guess is they want Bortles. He fits what Turner has worked with in the past and seems to have a good work ethic and attitude. If BB is gone I'm not sure we'd spend no.8 on anybody else as I think they may like Mettenberger or Savage in the second for similar reasons. If we can move back we can still add a key piece to our D and then we'd have even more ammo to move up ahead of all the QB needy teams pickin ahead of us in the 2nd to snag our guy late first.

Of course, I'm sure we're not the only team thinking that way, and I suspect a QB frenzy to go down between picks 25-35 or so.
Control the line, control the time, and give your D a chance to shine!!

Gotta disagree on the Ponder point Steve. If you recall that draft, when Gabbert fell all the way to 9 the vikings were frantically trying to make a trade with Dallas to move up and get him. Unfortunately(fortunately) they could not pull off the trade, Jacksonville took Gabbert at 10 and the Vikes felt Ponder was their best option left.
Why must you defend everything this FO does....to the point of making your self look like a yes man.

I don't recall reading anywhere that the tried to move up for Gabbert. If I recall, there were definitely rumors we were sour on Gabbert and hoped that Locker would fall all the way down to us.

Either way ... there was only one hit in that draft and it was Newton ... that is often how it goes (Kaepernick could still be a big one too). I have no problem with selecting Gabbert, Locker or Ponder and hoping they are a hit. I would have preferred we traded back and got Ponder later, but that is life. You have to keep drafting top 5 draft QBs in order to ever hit on one. Sometimes you miss (Jeff George) and then not long later you can hit it big (Peyton Manning).

I have a hard time believing anyone would think Bridgwater is a first round pick. I would take all of the projected second round picks over him. He gets shook when under pressure, and will have the shaky knee problem that Travaras did.

I wonder how many of the college QBs you can say that about.

For instance, even though he tends to make a lot of big plays, in my mind Manziel gets rattled easily. He tends to leave the pocket at the slightest hint of pressure. He makes ill advised throws that his receivers, particularly Evans, have bailed him out on countless times. With bigger/better/faster DBs, and perhaps WRs not as elite as Evans, along with bigger/better/faster DL, I don't think he will be as successful with his riskier outside the pocket maneuvers.

We've already seen Carr get rattled under pressure. Garoppolo does too. Heck, so does Tom Brady.

All of these guys have question marks. With Bridgewater, for me, it's more his small frame - will it stand up to the hits he'll likely take in the NFL? I have the same concern about Manziel. TB added weight before combine, but it was reported he played last season closer to 190 lbs. In his defense, he's played hurt a lot and succeeded, unlike Ponder and TJack. TB usually stands tall in the pocket and continues to look downfield. What I've seen is he is actually pretty good under pressure. That's one part of his game I'm not concerned about.

Remember when you talk about what these NFL players say/have said, Jaworski said he wouldn't draft Manziel before the 3rd round. You'll find scouts and players on every side of the spectrum on all of these guys. They all have flaws; I just hope we don't take any of them with the #8 overall pick.

Keep in mind the Vikings will only be playing outdoors at home for the next two seasons, and the guy we draft this season almost certainly won't be playing at all this year, and maybe not next. As far as playing in GB and Chicago, there are many times when the Vikings play away at those stadiums, it isn't "cold" weather yet (though certainly over the course of a career, the new Vikings QB will have to play plenty of games in colder weather). As long as TB can play with gloves (he did his whole Louisville career, even when it wasn't cold), I don't see this as a big concern.

If you are looking for a "cold weather" QB, Garoppolo is the guy you want.
