Re: Leber will get on field more to defend on passing downs

I would still think that Greenway would be better in coverage than Leber, but BEn has definetly earned more playing time.

I'm guessing we are going to try to take away the big play, meaning Witten is going to go off on us.

Well, Greenway dropped a possible int for 6...

Leber snagged an int that looked way out of his reach...

Re: Leber will get on field more to defend on passing downs

Here's the best article I've found in describing why Leber will play more:

    http://vikings.scout.com/a.z?s=63&p=2&c=691625

As a result, coach Brad Childress said he plans to begin rotating Leber and Greenway in the nickel package. This shouldn’t be a difficult transition because, according to Childress, the linebackers have “the same skill sets to be able to do that stuff.”

Exactly how this will work is not yet clear but it’s obvious the Vikings want Leber on the field. “There is a little disparity there between (Leber’s) snaps and Greenway’s snaps,” Childress said. “I think you will see that change. We do some things playing big nickel and little nickel so (teams) can’t completely legislate Pat Williams out of the game either.”

Re: Leber will get on field more to defend on passing downs

Ahh, yeah, Greenway got burnt a few times in that CHI game...and it wasn't the first time this season.
Not sure if he's giving too much cushion or just getting tired or what?
But, Leber has been a playmaker for us, and having those legs fresh might make both of them better!

Yup, those LBs of ours better be ready for Witten, cuz the ball is going to go his way.

So you are judging their coverage skills solely on one play each?

I thought both Leber and Greenway where to be on the field at all times. Chad on weak side and Leber on strong side. Leber is a great player and also is Chad both would be awesomeon the field at the same time. Chad is alos pretty new to the NFL still learning. Defense has been working for the Vikes the way it is.

The title of the thread refers to "passing downs" meaning we are not in our base 4-3 set. During passing downs in the past we have taken out Leber and put in McCauley. That means we had Greenway and Henderson in for nickel situations.

If you are suggesting we rock Greenway and Leber for nickel, taking out Henderson, I can't agree with that. Henderson should always be on the field.
