Re: Kluwe - Minnesota's Best Punter Ever

Kluwe also set the single-season record of 34 punts inside the opponents' 20-yard line a year ago. With 23 more this year, he's third on the career list with 102.
Superb stats... yet some people wanted him cut halfway through the season. I hope Kluwe stays on the team for a loooong time. I think his contract is very long (might be wrong though)

I wonder if he hasn't had troubles with his leg this year......He did have surgery back in 06 (Jan I think).

I like the guy but he has been inconsistent that led to many TDs just this year.
    Berger was awesome.
That guy could kick and tackle.
    Best Vikings punter ever?
Maybe statistically but by far not techincally.

Re: Kluwe - Minnesota's Best Punter Ever

As stated by a handful of people here ... Berger was probably the best punter in Vikes history. Though we definitely have not had that many really good ones.
Kluwe is an above average punter, but probably not quite in the top 10 in the league ... but I think Berger is our only Pro Bowl punter. Kluwe does tend to kick line drives that are very returnable often when he gets a chance to boom it, but he is very solid with a short field at getting a fair catch or pin the ball inside the 20.
I like Kluwe, but best ever Vikes punter may be a stretch right now.

Re: Kluwe - Minnesota's Best Punter Ever

For me, Berger is by far our best punter to date, but Kluwe is a close second.
I like the way he has devolped and he has a hell of a leg.
Now, only if the players that surround him on speical teams, during punts, could do their parts on a more consitent basis.
If they gave his solid support, on a consistent basis, Kluwe would be a great asset to this team.
Kluwe stays and we are very well set at Punter, if you ask me.

    I don't think so.

Again, I played High School ball but wasn't very good.
Because of that I was relagated to the ST's (KR, PR and coverage guy).
I love watching those cats play.
weren't you harping on him for not being able to put the ball in the correct half of the field, and for not having enough hangtime on punts?

He did but that doesn't mean he goes to the bathroom when the punter comes out

Re: Kluwe - Minnesota's Best Punter Ever

Kluwe's latest record came Sunday, when he finished the season with a 47.6-yard gross average, breaking Bobby Walden's 44-year-old record of 46.4. Kluwe's career gross average (44.5) also moved into first ahead of Harry Newsome's mark of 43.8.
That is a career high for him.

Kluwe also set the single-season record of 34 punts inside the opponents' 20-yard line a year ago. With 23 more this year, he's third on the career list with 102. He also has had only one punt blocked in 318 attempts.
To call this guy inconsistent is just a joke.

You are correct, I was harping on him for both especially against the Bores but haven't been on him to much since the Chiller and he come to the agreement that he will kick it to the spot the coach tells him to.
