Kluwe - Minnesota's Best Punter Ever

    http://www.startribune.com/sports/vikings/36857999.html?elr=KArksi8cyaiU9PmP:QiUiacyKUnciaec 8O7EyU

Chris Kluwe would be the first to admit that punting is a thankless job that goes overlooked by most NFL fans.

"When I come in, it's pretty much a signal for everybody to get up, grab a beer and go to the bathroom," he said. "But that's the life of an NFL punter, I guess."

In Minnesota, most people recognize Adrian Peterson as the best running back in the 47-year history of the franchise. What they've missed while in the bathroom is Chris Kluwe becoming the best punter in team history at the ripe old age of 27.

"It's funny," Kluwe said. "No matter what I've done, most people think of me as the guy on 'Monday Night Football' who couldn't kick the ball out of bounds in New Orleans."
I think Marrdro would fall under this category... Cheesy

As a punter, your mistakes stand out more than almost any other and you don't have a lot of opportunities to make people forget them.
I think we are lucky to have Kluwe as our punter and he helps a lot with field position.

    I don't think so.

Again, I played High School ball but wasn't very good.
Because of that I was relagated to the ST's (KR, PR and coverage guy).
I love watching those cats play.

Seriously, I am really getting a big attitude with respect to the local press.
    Kluwe, the best ever?
    Gimme a break.
    He couldn't sniff Berger's jock.

On a side note, the ST's coach that Mitch gives alot of credit to, is available and has had some experience with our new K'r.

Taylor Mehlhaff - 2008 Draft Eligible Kicker - University of Wisconsin

"Hi, I'm Taylor Mehlhaff former University of Wisconsin kicker. Me and Ken DeBauche, our punter, came down to beautiful Scottsdale Arizona for a couple of days to work on some kicking with Coach Gary Zauner. We had a great time! We went out and kicked field goals and kickoffs on two different days. One of the best things I liked, is after we actually kicked, we went back later on that day and watched the video of our session. I thought it was a great learning experience. We worked on a couple of drills that really helped me out! Before I came out here I was pulling the ball a little bit and I have now straightened it out! Coach Zauner is a very knowledgeable man and we had a great time. It was good!"

I thought Mitch Berger was better than Kluwe.

Kluwe has been really good....but he's inconsistent IMO.

    And only punts........(inconsistently
    ;D)
Mitch Kicked off and Punted allowing Gary to just focus on FG's.

I tend to agree with that. I think Berger was the more accurate of the two, IMO.

In Kluwe's defense though, he's dropped some really nice punts inside the 5 that are special teams always manages to fuck up & turn it into a touch back.

Re: Kluwe - Minnesota's Best Punter Ever

On Sept. 28 at Tennessee, Kluwe set a team record with six punts of 50 yards or more. Two weeks later, he tied his record with six more vs. the Lions. With a team-record 35 on the season, Kluwe has tied Greg Coleman (1978-87) and Mitch Berger (1996-2001) for the career record of 99.
