I thought his numbers were pretty decent considering they were more of a "Run First" type of team.

The addition of Bolden (Clayton, Mason, Stallworth) probably made him expendable.

I thought you might have a bit of insight into this.

Thrown at 45, receptions 34, 431 yards, 12.7 ypc....... Not bad considering the team he was on last year.

    Profootball Focus Stats

I'm not so sure I would want to be a WR trying to make this squad though.

    87 Bernard Berrian WR 29 6-1 185 7 Fresno State
    15 Taye Biddle WR 27 6-1 185 2 Mississippi
    13 Marquis Hamilton WR 23 6-3 222 R Iowa State
    12 Percy Harvin WR 22 5-11 184 2 Florida
    11 Jaymar Johnson WR 26 6-0 176 2 Jackson State
    17 Greg Lewis WR 30 6-0 180 8 Illinois
    11 Marko Mitchell WR 25 6-4 218 2 Nevada-Reno
    19 Logan Payne WR 25 6-2 205 3 Minnesota
    15 Vinny Perretta WR 24 5-9 186 R Boise State
    18 Sidney Rice WR 23 6-4 202 4 South Carolina
    85 Ray Small WR 23 5-11 180 R Ohio State
    14 Joe Webb WR 23 6-3 223 R Alabama-Birmingham
BB, El Syd, PH are sure fire locks. Leaves 2 spots open if they default back to a 5 WR set like they did before last year.

With the KOff Specialist taking up a spot, a glut of RB's that might take an extra spot, your friends friend has a tough row to hoe....
I still wonder if they might not try to move Berrian before the season. I think Washington could probably come up with 600 yards and 4td if given a starting role for the season. Much cheaper too.

Big Puffy Hand. WOW. Nice find my friend.

Makes sense. I thought they might try to move DR or JJ, but BB makes more sense, put in the light of the author.

    Again, nice find.

Hmmm, I know, probably just taking a shot on a guy for camp, but this is the 2nd WR we've signed to a pretty impressive squad from last season in the dulldrums of offseason...perhaps? Rice's injury is worse than expected? Any chance of PUP do you think?

I kinda think Reynaud makes it on his versatility...returns, reciever and now, some running back depth too...might be hard to let him go.

I'd guess that JJ and GL are more likely to be cut...?

    Re:Kelley Washington to Vikes

That is a great point regarding Berrian.

Kelley Washington was a highly touted WR coming out of college a few years back (I think 3 without looking it up). The Pats nabbed him. It was actually a WR I was hoping the Vikings would draft. He has pretty good hands and pretty good speed. Probably a younger version of Berrian with better hands. He did pretty well against us when the Ravens played the Vikings last year. I believe he did time in Cincy too but I may be wrong.

I wouldn't read anything into his stats for his time in NE. He was on a team that had Randy Moss, Wes Welker and Dante Stallworth. The #4 WR was Gaffney is I recall. He wasn't going to get much playing time.

I would like it if the Vikings pick him up and I do believe he could compete for that #4 if not #3 if what you are thinking about Berrian is correct.

There is absolutely no reason to cut Berrian.

Is he overpaid? Yeah. Are all new free agents who are above average or better overpaid? Absolutely.

He didn't put up much last year, because he and Favre started out slow. Berrian missed Preseason, and Favre missed TC. They missed the reps together. Yous aw towards the end of the season, Berrian was making some very nice plays and catches. Begginning? Not as much. The year before, he did fairly alright considering we didn't have much for QB's and was in a brand new system.

Now, factor in that Rice is hurt, isn't training because he's hurt, and has had a history of being hurt and ineffective. Cutting Berrian would be a very bad move, potentially leaving Harvin as our go-to guy.

If after this year, Berrian is ineffective, yeah, maybe consider. But now, you HAVE to at least try and trade him IF we were thinking of unloading him. We can get something for Berrian.

Cutting him just doesn't make any sense.

I agree and disagree. Keeping him on the team wouldn't be a bad thing. I think you are correct in he and Favre started meshing late last year. However if you trade him that means the other team would have to take over his contract. That may be a hard sell considering he is probably considered a #3 WR behind Rice and Harvin. I like the idea of trading him if possible. I just don't know if a team would be willing to take the contract with it.

Good points my friend, however, as you pointed out, BB has had a rash of injuries as well.

One thing to consider, BB's numbers were stellar prior to the Noodle, leading the league in ypc avg. Last year we saw that drop of quite a bit. Most contend that it was because he was hurt and he and the Noodle didn't get in synch. I gotta pull out the bullshit flag on that one.

BB and the Noodle did get in synch last year. Problem was, it was on the shorter stuff. Clearly the team likes to exploit the short and intermediate stuff before they go deep. In short, doesn't that kindof make one think that they would look for another "Possesion" kindof guy instead of a "Field Stretcher"?

If that is the case, then BB is expendable even if El Syd is hurt. If you look at our WR composition, Lewis and Biddle are almost the same type (size/weigth) reciever as BB.
