I wish him well.
I had high hopes given his performance at USC.
I still think he will have a career in the NFL, if he applys himself.
His performance at USC was underwhelming, given the talent around him and the weak competition in the Pac-10.

Booty got hurt in 2007 and after that he didn't look the same, thus the drop in stats.
If you look at Sanchez's performance as his sub in 2007 with the same talent, he wasn't as good as his year as a starter, 7TDs 5INTs.

I'm not saying Sanchez isn't much better and deserved to be a 1st rounder, but Booty looked very good in college and I expected more in the Pros.
What is very good about Booty's college career?
Really - that's an honest question.
Given the level of talent that USC has been able to amass under Pete Carroll, I think he underperformed as the starting QB for SC.
Please provide me with statistics the rate the level of talent of the rest of the team minus the QB for the Trojans in 2006 and 2007.

Then we will be able to judge a USC QB skills in relationship to team talent.
If you click the link above, it will take you to a post that will take you to the USC Trojans page where all sorts of statistics are available to peruse and slice and dice at your disposal.

The only stats I need are Booty's loss at home to a 41-point underdog, to be honest.
Why do you always pin loses just on the QB?
I don't.
Didn't pin last week's loss by the Vikings on Favre, now did I?

In the case of Booty and USC's loss - AT HOME - to 41-point underdog Stanford, I think his stat line speaks for itself:

10/6 Stanford L 24-23
24 40 364 60.0 9.10 63 2 4 4 67.1 4 -29 -7.3 0 0

2 TDs, 4 picks.
AT HOME.
Ugh.

=Z=

Thanks to Josdin for the awesome sig!

When's the last time a talented USC quarterback surrounded by a talented USC team DIDN'T drop a Pac-10 game that they should have won?

I contend it's impossible to determine how good a offense is without a QB.
Thus, the stats are useless unless you think you can come up with a reasonable statistical methodology.

Also, what game are you talking about?
Booty had 3 losses as a starter all to top 10 ranked teams.
He also won both Rose Bowls and was offensive MVP in both.

His overall record was 20-3.

As I simply stated before, I expected more based on what I saw from him in college.

Strangely enough Leinart was USC's starting QB in 2005.
Booty started 2006 and 2007.

You confused me with the 2005 stuff above
Booty had a bad game, so what, what QB hasn't?

If you judge a QB by one point loss to a conference rival, then I hope Favre wins doesn't lose by one point to GB because in your eyes he would be considered a hack and that it's the rest of the team that's carrying him.

We're going around in circles.
But my basic point is this:
the talent-level disparities in college football are huge when compared to the NFL.
USC has more talent on their squad than probably only 5 or 6 other teams in NCAA Division I football - and has ever since Pete Carroll took over.
His ability to recruit tons of talented players (whether that be on the up-and-up or not) has made USC into one of the very elite programs in college football.

So - given that level of talent (which I believe is not in dispute) - there's no freaking way that USC should lose to Stanford at home.
Ever.
And Booty's performance in that game (4 INTs) is the absolute direct reason they lost.
Hell - I remember watching that game.
Stinkaroo.

If the Vikings lost at home to Detroit by 1-point after Favre threw 4 picks, then I would be on his ass just like I am Booty's.
And the talent difference between the Vikings and Detroit is minimal when compared to that of USC vs. Stanford.

I still maintain that Booty had a mediocre college career based upon WHO he played for and WHAT he did with that team.
His horrid play in the NFL and subsequent practice squad follies back that up, to me.

Thanks for your opinion, I disagree on his college play (excluding one game), but including two impressive performances in the Rose Bowls against ranked teams.
I can't disagree on his NFL play, because I said I was disappointed and thought he would do better.
