Which, with Ponder as QB, happened to be 10 times last year.

If he continues his mediocre play with the addition of Jennings & Patterson, we're going to need a FG kicker who can kick it long & a punter who can kick it deep.

    2. Yup, Cluwe's in the coach' doghouse. That's why we are bringing punters in, not because CLuwe is a bad player.

    3. This is a clear statement. When you use a fifth round pick for a punter he's essentially the starter already. Look for Cluwe to be traded. We wont get much, but Cluwe is an elite punter in the NFL so there are plenty of teams that want him.
    First Kassel & now Cluwe.

    What's up with that? ;P

His best net average landed him 17th in the league...not sure, if the rest of the league got better while he stayed roughly the same? And, you got to figure, net has a lot to do with the rest of the coverage team, while the punt average is his alone. In Kluwe's defense, he does seem to nail that one 50-yarder per game right when we need it most, so his below average average doesn't seem bad on game day.

Net does have to do with the rest of the coverage team, but it also has a lot to with hang time also. I'm don't how they compare, but their distances seem to be similar. Locke averaged 43.3 yards last season while Kluwe averaged 45.

However Kluwe doesn't do kickoffs & Locke won't get $1.4 mil this year.

Vikings draft punter in fifth round, perhaps to replace Kluwe

Playing through right groin and left knee injuries in 2012, Kluwe had the third highest gross average (45.0 yards) and best net average (39.9) of his eight-year career. But he also finished 31st in the league in punts inside the 20, had some uncharacteristic and ill-timed shanks, and saw the constant attention from his social activism and social media presence wear thin with the coaching staff.

    Perhaps? Ya think?

It wasn't to replace Simpson, Ponder, or Allen, but I am just guessing here.
