Jaworski: Vikings' Jackson 'beginning to get it'

Jaworski: Vikings' Jackson 'beginning to get it'

Few people watch as much NFL film as Ron Jaworski, a former NFL QB who says he's starting to see progress - and potential - in the Vikings' Tarvaris Jackson.

In the early 1990s, a few years after he retired from the NFL, Ron Jaworski started to break down games at NFL Films.

I like the way Jaws breaks down film, it's a great way to learn whats going on. And when you get a pat on the back from someone like Jaworski that's pretty cool. Tarvaris has alot of work to do but he is steadily getting better. I'd like to see a fourth qtr comeback directerd by T-Jack, but he has really shown he is seeing the field better and making good decisions as where to go with the ball.

What's been surprising is he has not been very good outside the pocket. I think I have him with four interceptions, no touchdowns outside the pocket.
Hmm... Very interesting.
I think at A-state, my bet would be he was much better outside the pocket.
I think that goes back to being comfortable.
Next year, i bet that stat will change dramatically.

I like how he's not that good out of the pocket yet. He can pick that up. The tougher skill is to be good in the pocket. TJack has progressed in this area and has a lot of potential to build on.

If I remember roght most of the 4 INTs were against Detroit during the 2nd game of the year.
I'm not sure I would worry too much about that stat if that is the case.

I didn't read the article (too lazy to sign up!) but if Jaws says anything good about TJ that is a good thing. I really respect his opinion. I'm very happy to see TJ improve as the season progressed.

1. I am very impressed with how he stays in the pocket for as long as he can.
2. When there isn't anything he is comfortable with he will put his head down and run for at least a few yards instead of taking negative yards.
3. When he runs, he runs vertical instead of horizontal and backwards!
4. He throws low. Beginning of the season he threw high, which lead to some tip-interceptions.

I agree that he will improve out of the pocket next year once he gets comfortable with it. I would also like to see him improve at locating the TE. Shancoe had a lot of catches when Bollinger and Holcomb were playing but his numbers go down when TJ plays. Not sure if that because TJ does a better of job of reading WRs before coming to the TE though! Either way, I think TE is slightly under-used when TJ is playing.

I am really glad to see this kid grow.

Halo 4. Start another fight.

Yep, Jaws is one of my favs as well.
He's intelligent about his points - he makes them, and stands by his opinion.
Some of these other yahoos could learn something from him.
I hope he's right about T-Jack.

Very nice read my friend.
Thanks.

I still worry about his ability to remain healthy.
Who care how accurate on the run he is or how comfortable in the pocket the pocket he is if he isn't on the field for 16 games.

I sure hope his injuries were flukes.

Many many thanks to my talented friend Jos for the new Sig.http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v343/josdin00/Vikings/Marrdro_sig.jpg

this is really really off topic, and i agree with what all of you are saying 100%.
I love what I have seen in T-Jack in the past 5 weeks!

but I just wanted to let everyone know that Jaws is one of the smelliest people I have ever met.
I live in PA and met him at Eagles training camp (i got free on field passes so i couldnt pass it up)... he smelled SO BAD, nice guy but SO SMELLY.
ok that was my rant.

SKOL VIKINGS!!!!

I like T-Jack as our QB, he's making the throws and running out of the pocket when needed. Keep it up kid!!!

ALL DAY!!!
