I seem to remember he had an off year a couple of seasons ago and there was talk of trading him or, he may be done, then he tore it up last year and the talk faded. Now he is starting out slow again, and all of a sudden there is talk of trading him, or , he just is not that good anymore.

Lets not forget that I humbly ate crow for Kevon over that observation. By the way, it wasn't a bad assumption though. He was off his game for a couple of years and all indications were that he was done.

Kevon was the only one, that I remember anyways, that actually said it was because of the players around him.

Exactly. I wasn't going crazy. I just thought he was done because of his dropoff.

Lets not forget, they wanted to get him on the field more. First option was to make him a LBr. That didn't seem to work (even though he got a sack from that position this weekend) and now they are rotating him in at RDE, LDE and DT on just about any down and distance.

I don't think Griffen is the pass rusher that Allen is however, I think he is living up to his potential. I don't know what the answer to getting him on the field is.

The issue at hand is scheme flexibility. JA looks dominant 75% of the time and stuck in mud 25% of the time. Griffen looks to be full motor 90% of the time, however, how will that change when he has to log all of the snaps in a game and not coming off the bench. How will he handle being doubled team each game, or chipped? Allen is a proven, griffen still an unknown. Allen would be the best defensive player in the league if he would play both sides and our team would be better off for it.

I do believe that JA will not be resigned as a Viking. Seems like he has 1 more year left on his contract and after that he will be allowed to walk if Griffen keeps flashing like he is. It would be smart to resign Griffen the same year that we left Allan walk, to a long term contract. Think 4 more years 15 million. As a 4th round pick, he would jump at the chance and we would then have him under contract for 5 - 6 years at a bargain price.

Personally I think that the emergence of Griffen is going to make JA's contract talks very interesting. I actually think if he is going to look for one last monster contract that we would be better off trading him and going with Griff rather than letting him walk away for nothing in FA.

And next years draft looks to be stacked with DE's. Go young.

True, I think Griff can be our Pass Rush Specialist on 3rd Downs. Same way Lance Johnstone held down that role for us years ago.

Good stuff my friend, as always....

To me, JA is a bit off, more than 75/25. Make it 60/40. To increase that, I would start to limit his reps giving more to Griff.

That would help in two areas.....1. Lets you see how Griff produces under extra workload. 2. Makes JA fresh because of less workload.

And I agree on the JA contract stuff. Thats why I've been a proponent of trading him (shitcanning as Singer says) before that even comes about.

Again, what impact would it have had so far without him on the team? Loss of leadership? Seems Greenway is taking over that role. Sacks? Again, coming from other places now. Double teams? Not happening as much as most on here contend. Truth is, it isn't happening much at all.

Truth is, trading him would be kind of a wake up call for the rest of the team and would make next years draft very interesting.

I actually would make it the other way. Let Griff get more reps and use JA as your pass rush specialist.

Keeps the old guys legs fresher that way.

How is it looking for "Warpigs".....:) Lord knows we have enough DE's.
