Vikings defensive end Jared Allen has been featured in The Sporting News, ESPN The Magazine and Sports Illustrated within the past few weeks. The SI piece had an interesting item about Allen being invited to the NFL Rookie symposium this week in order to talk about his issues with alcohol.....

Great quote by Allen, simple, but to the point....

"The biggest thing I would say to young players is, ‘Grow up.’”

"Honestly, I'm not sure if anyone will listen," he said. "But at least we can say that someone told them. It's good for them to see some real-life anecdotes. It's important they know things are going to come up, and there are tools out there to fix it."

Kids would be a lot more likely to listen to him than they would listen to a principal or a parent. Here's a guy who's experienced trouble with alcohol and come through it. Good stuff...

I would hope that could help some realize something about maturity and responsibility. Not only to your self and the ones closest to you, but also towards your employer and others to whom you've made commitments.

As it were stated. How to 'grow up', and be an adult male.

Thanks to PPE for the sig.

I am liking Jared Allen alot. It seems that he has grown alot from his past mistakes and wants to really impact young players. Having him lead the discussion will greatly add to the players awareness. Good job, Jared!!!
