    Interesting Viking article

I thought this was an interesting article the Webmaster here posted. I just read it and lo and behold this so called expert and I happen to agree.

Im glad you have unbiased reporters quoted on your site Webmaster this shows real class. Some of you had me convinced the Vikes would blow apart all its competition. This guy disagrees!

    NFL Team Preview: Minnesota Vikings
    Stephen Nover

(Editor’s note: This is the third in a series of NFL team previews by Covers Expert Stephen Nover. Today, Stephen looks at the Minnesota Vikings.)

"You wouldn’t expect the Vikings to have a quiet offseason, would you? No, of course not. Randy Moss may be keeping a low profile, but projected starting linebackers E.J. Henderson and Mike Nattiel definitely haven’t. Both were arrested following a fight in a nightclub in early June. Henderson also was found guilty on an April drunk driving charge.

Things aren’t looking up in Minnesota when Moss is the Vikings’ best off-the-field citizen. The Vikings are already young and thin at linebacker. That doesn’t matter to some rabid Vikings bettors. Minnesota fans are famous among Las Vegas bookmakers for the way they back their Twins and Vikings on the futures book.

Before you go rushing off to bet the Vikings at 20-1 to win the Super Bowl, consider a few things besides the positives of Daunte Culpepper, Moss, the healthy return of Michael Bennett, newly signed cornerback Antoine Winfield and promising rookie defensive end Kenechi Udeze.

The Vikings are one of the NFL’s real head-case teams with the most delicate of egos. They finished 3-7, and were eliminated from making the playoffs by Arizona on a miracle fourth-down, 28-yard touchdown pass on the final play. You have to question the Vikings’ mental state. That loss still could have a lingering effect. Mike Tice has yet to prove anything as head coach except an inability to make his first-round draft pick on time and letting Moss get away with anything.

Moss and Culpepper are dazzling stars. I rank Moss the best fantasy football wide receiver, and Culpepper the No. 2 fantasy quarterback behind Peyton Manning. Marcus Robinson is a nice upgrade over D’Wayne Bates at the other receiver spot, provided he can stay healthy. Bennett could surprise with a big season now that he’s fully recovered from a stress fracture in his foot.

But if you get away from the flash, you have to wonder how much actual substance there is with Minnesota. Udeze could ignite the pass rush, but what has Chris Hovan ever accomplished except badmouth Brett Favre? The linebacking corps has serious question marks, and only five defenses allowed a higher average than the Vikings in passing yardage per game. Second-year kicker Aaron Elling struggled with field goal accuracy and kickoff distance.

You have two choices if you already have formed a serious opinion on how the Vikings will fare this season. Depending on the sportsbook, the Vikings’ regular-season win total is either at 8 1/2 or nine. At first glance it looks like Minnesota could surpass eight victories judging by their schedule. They have four games against the Lions and Bears, along with games against the Texans, Saints, Giants, Jaguars and Redskins. None of those teams had a winning record last year.

My inclination, though, is to go under nine wins.

The Vikings open at home against Dallas. Then they play at the Eagles. If the Vikings were to open 0-2, they could find themselves already in plenty of trouble given their mental fragility. Certainly the Vikings should beat the Bears at home in Week 3. After a bye week, the Vikings then play consecutive road games against the Texans and Saints. If you like trends, keep this one in mind: The Vikings are 2-7 against the spread the last nine times they’ve been favored on the road.

After this, the Vikings host the Titans and Giants before going back on the road to face the Colts and Packers. That could mean a 1-3 record during this four-game stretch.

Following that Minnesota hosts the Lions and Jaguars before playing at the Bears. These are games the Vikings should win. If they don’t, reaching their win total could become rough because their final four games are the Seahawks, the improved Lions at Detroit, the Packers and a road contest against Joe Gibbs’ Redskins.

Sorry Minnesota fans, but I don’t see nine wins there."
Some of us will do our jobs well and some will not, but we will all be judged by only one thing - the result." --Vince Lombardi

    Interesting Viking article

I posted what when? Got the wrong guy; but hey, you're credibility has never been too sparkling. Typical packer fan, makes stuff up as he goes just to fit his narrow little paradigm.

Doesn't it even bother you, Texpack, that your whole post is pointless and not worth reading when you start out like a kid having a tantrum (with similar logic processes)?

If someone is bored, let me know what the yaddlehoo has to say. I am sure to be quite touched. Oh, by the way genius: this is a Vikings site. Don't let our civility coax you into thinking it is anything more than a Vikings Pride/Packers Suck site. We'll post whatever the hell we want when we want and if you don't like it then go find a meat packing home. Bloody brilliant, these pack fans.

Wow Texpack you mean you actually agree with this? What a surprise!

Honestly this guy is a gambling "expert" who seems to care more about whether we will cover the spread than actually win games.

I hate when people are like:

Hey look the play the Colts, Eagles, etc all these good teams. NEWSFLASH everyone in our division plays 12 of the same teams we do AND who knows whether they will be good next year. If last year was any indicationg at least a few won't.

I m like a Ja Rule poster, cause I'm off the wall.

Not covering the point spread does not mean a loss. The Vikings have won many games without covering the spread! As for Hovan he is good enough to draw a double team most of the time, also the artice does not mention the new DC who is consider to be pretty good!
    can we clone Bud Grant?

This is ridiculous. it's some gambling "expert" and not a football expert. he probably doesn't even know what he's talking about, and like everyone else said, covering the spread isn't the same as winning! if u wanna post crap like this do it on a packers site, not here. all u've accomplished by posting it here is looking like an idiot.

Y0ou can tell this is a packer fan when he says what has hovan done. He assumes he has gotten 1 sack all of last year and expects him to remain like that throughout the rest of his career after getting 6 and 5 plus sacks along with many tackles the seasons before. Ok so hovan had a down year but assuming he'll be that way forever is dumb. I dont expect to see hovan having another down year this year after losing weight and taking martial arts to get quicker this offseason.

He also states how bad our lb core can be. Doesnt he realize how bad the packers lb core is as well. Barnett is good but so is claiborne. Other then that hannibal navies and nail diggs arent that great and could be at that the same level of our dontarrious thomas and mike nattiel if they dont perform immediately.

Other then that the article is alright, at the average, below average level.

Texpack, the guy who wrote that article is figuring odds for betters in Vegas. He basically goes a lot more by what happened last year than what changes were made for this year. He's playing it safe, being pessimistic.

Now most real football analysts in the major magazines have the Vikings winning the division, or getting a wild card berth at the worst.
