Every great coach seems to have a great QB... someone posted the list in the Chilly extension thread.
Generally speaking, coaches are evaluated based on their ability to win... and in this league, winning is predominantly determined by QB play.
There are some exceptions, but the correlation is too strong to refute.
Is Chilly a different coach this year then in the past?
He's improving, but he's still the same guy.
The difference this year is the improved QB play... with that play comes improved team play, improved win percentage, and improved perception of Chilly's coaching abilities.

IMO, there are better ways to look at a coach.
How is the team's game plan?
How are they making on the fly adjustments?
How are they doing with penalties?
A well coached team comes in ready to play, even against inferior opponents.
A well coached team has a strong game plan but is able to tweak it as needed.
A well coached team comes out improved after half time.
A well coached team has the discipline to minimize penalties.

Holding Childress to that standard, I believe he does very well.
Our team has come ready to play every week though I could see some disagreeing with weeks 1 and 2 which I attribute more to Favre's learning curve.
We are near the league low in penalties committed.
The stat I saw on Sunday said we have scored the most point of any team in the league in our first possession after the half.
In games that we had issues early (Detroit and Cleveland) adjustments were made to put the game in hand.

Beyond these things, the players respect Childress and not because he lets them do whatever they want like some "player coaches".
Players seem to want to play for him.

    He can improve.
The issues people have presented regarding his clock management abilities are valid though issues people harp on like play calling and challenges really need to go away.
The team could continue to develop more of a killer instinct ala the Patriots though that is a rare quality.
Remember, a cornered animal is the most dangerous, the same can be said about a team with their backs against the wall who you're trying to completely crush instead of just defeating.
I'd also like to point out most of our killer instinct problems reside with our D getting too soft as opposed to our O not scoring enough points which I find rather humorous since many MANY people would have loved to see Chilly replaced with Frazier.
So he does have areas to improve and while these areas may make Chilly appear "idiotic" they are also easily fixed versus the other qualities he demonstrates being much harder to obtain.

I like Chilly, I like the way he has the team heading, and I like the way he as a coach is progressing.
Bringing Favre in was a great move for the team and for himself as a coach.
Let the Purple Reign of Terror begin in the NFL!
This post has made me revisit some of the ole spreadsheets to see were you stand.
Suffice it to say, you just got elevated on a couple.
