It kinda sounds like he's getting a little salty with reporters there...

For the record, I'm not all that impressed with you either Childress.
I actually listened to the press conference, and he was not testy at all.
In fact it was surprisingly upbeat given the record.
When a reporter asked if it was fashionable to boo the QB when things go wrong, he said it was more fashionable to boo the head coach (or something along those lines).
He was joking with the reporters the whole time.
I know he was just funnin'; I listened to the press conference as well, I guess I must have missed the "Don't read those blogs." comment.
I just wasn't sure where his intent was with that comment.

If I was a coach or even to a littler note a GM, I most certainly would pay attention to forums such as this. Not using it for direct adjustments, changes in depth chart or even anything remotely to do with strategies.

I would use it as a medium to get a pulse on the perception of the team overall.... your local fan base, the ticket holders are the key to non-shared money at the gate and concessions stands.. they are your lifeblood of operating cash flow.. never has a team had a better direct pulse on the fan base than a forum such as this.

If you cut out the 10 % haters and 10 % homers.. someplace in the middle where the rational fans lives, you get a direct pulse of how you are doing in the common fans eyes. And don't be fooled, there isn't a large gap between the blowhards of the NFL (Clayton, Mort, Pastabelly, Glazer) than the common fan.. they just have connections that pass on information.

I wouldn't necessarily utilize the points made on a forum, but I certainly would pay attention to those that live, breathe, sleep and bleed your colors. To ignore them would be foolish.. IMO.

    Re: I don't think Childress likes PP.O...

As I read that article I was struck by the fact that not one QB has played well with the Vikings since Childress has been here. Now I know these may not be great QB's to begin with but when they hit the Childress turf they regress or never develop. The only real proof I have of this is Johnson who was never great but he was not bad a year earlier than he brought his wet noodle in with the Childress regime and failed. He goes to Dallas and even though he doesn't become a star he plays well enough that the Cowboys don't go looking for a replacement.
    I wonder why that is?

You want a more dynamic offense, but you are banging the drum for one of the most old school coaches out there available, well possibly if he wanted to pull a Favre.. Bill didn't have any more dynamic of an offense than what you have now.. but he was a whale of a coach that held people accountable and was a defense first and chose to have his offense not lose the game.. not sure he is the coach that fits the bill here in MN on the turf indoors. He utilized the weather and outdoors to his style of game.. and he isn't going to bring the most exciting brand of football to your franchise.. but he would probably win in the end if he could shape the defense to his liking.

    Aww.
You think that only 20% of us are haters or homers?
    That's cute...

I am quite certain that the Vikings staff keeps tabs on the various Vikings forums, the strib blogs, pft, etc... But I doubt that Childress himself pays any attention to it - his job is too demanding as it is.
Instead I would expect that the general pulse of the fans is reported to the entire FO on a weekly basis in bullet format.

Well I could be honest.. but that just isn't polite.
    ;D

If I used the PH.com.. well I won't go there because it isn't any better than any other fan base.

The day a coach listens to the average idiot fan is the day they should resign.
You look at the espn coaches poll and the support is on a week by week basis based on W/L.

Hmmm, was Coughlin a good coach in 2007?
Let's look at the idiot base: http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/sportsnation/coach?coachId=35

How about Sean Payton in '07? http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/sportsnation/coach?coachId=42
The idiots wouldn't have given him the extension like he received this year.

What about Wade Phillips in '07?
    http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/sportsnation/coach?coachId=33
Wow, I bet the girls fans wished the fans had control over whether he should walk or stay.

What about Brad Childress in '07?
    http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/sportsnation/coach?coachId=52
Look at the foresight of the average fan, week to week?

How about Lovie Smith in '08? http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/sportsnation/coach?coachId=38
That is a sure sign of idiocy.

Look at the posts on this board where fans wear their emotions on their sleeves.
Any coach worth having as a coach would treat these polls as bullshit, unless for some reason they want to base their career off of what some teenager and unscientific poll says.

    +1

I'll put fan-based "Fire so-and-so" Interweb petitions in this discussion as well.
