    Re: How many loved Daunte?

Daunte's TD celebration is his own, why would he come up with another?
He scored what he thought was a winning basket in H.S. basketball game, only to be called for traveling (the roll), since then he's made it his own.
I am glad we have him and this year he'll prove to all why he's the in the
top 2 or 3 at his position, if not the best.

    Re: How many loved Daunte?

I hated the Daunte pick because we didn't need a QB then. Jeff George was the best thing since sliced bread. Randall Cunningham was the fastest QB in the history of the NFL and would always remain so.

I hated the Randy Moss pick because we needed a CB. Why pick Randy Moss? Cris Carter and Jake Reed were the best WR tandem in the history of the NFL. We don't need another WR.

I hated the Kevin Williams pick because I wanted Jimmy Kennedy. Jimmy Kennedy had the same last name as Cortez Kennedy. Cortez Kennedy was the greatest DT in the history of the NFL. What kind of name is Kevin Williams? What good player ever came out of Oklahoma State not named Barry Sanders? What a stupid pick.

In retrospect, I don't know jack about the NFL draft. Keep pissing me off on draft day Zygi, and we might just win a Super Bowl.

P.S. - I didn't like the Troy Williamson pick at first either!

I remember I was nine and my dad came in to my bedroom and said "The Vikings just selected a quarterback. Hes the size of a linebacker!" My dad was really excited.

    Re: How many loved Daunte?

I personally loved the pick at the time. I remember watching UCF vs. Nebraska, who at the time was #1 in the country and predicted to win the National Championship. UCF was @ Nebraska and Daunte' was running all over the Black Shirts Defense .... UCF was up 16-13 at halftime and the look on all the Cornhusker fans faces was like ..... WHAT???? just happened. UCF ended up loosing that game. Ever since then, I have been following him and knew if nothing else he was big, had a strong arm, and could run. I figured @ the draft, anything else could be worked on.

I also hated the pick at the time. I remember watching him in preseason thinking "omg, why did we choose him." he threw 3 or 4 interceptions in that preseason game... (hope that's the right stat?)
Now of course after he got a real chance after his rookie year, i' was impressed that he would try and run people over instead of just running out.

PurpleAndy and CulpepernSalt: Thanks for your honesty. For awhile I thought I was the only one to admit I hated the pick at the time. Obviously we were wrong but everyone else can't admit it. I'd love to see this exact forum the day of the '99 draft. So many people were pissed but you wouldn't know it from this discussion. My foot tastes pretty good right now. How about the rest of you?

    ps: Andy, please keep hatin
