How bad is our defense really? compare the stats

#1 defense, tampa bay

Yards, 4444.
Yards per game, 277.8.
Rush yards, 1515.
Rush yards per game, 94.7
Passing yards, 2929.
Passing yards per game, 183.1
Points, 183.1.
Points per game, 17.3

#21 defense, Minnesota

Yards 5173
Yards per game 323.3
Rushing yards 1841
Rushing yards per game 115.1
Passing yards 3332
Passing yards per game 208.3
Points 344
Points per game 21.5

There isn't much of a differnce in most the stats so this proves our defense isn't that bad. personally i don't think yards means jack squat if the other team can't score; however we gave up a ton of points and most of the damage was done in the first few blow outs we had. otherwise our defense is realistically top 15. anyone wanna place bets that our defense is atleast #16 next year?

Our defense could have been Top 10 if it played like it did the second half all year. Next year hopefully we'll continue to improve.

ha ha i am a risky better i don't bet much. but yeah we would have been atleast top 15 if the defense started out good in the beginning of the year. we still have about 4 holes on our defense and if 2 of those alone are fixed we can be atleast top 15 next year. even with a new d cooridinator and new coaches all around it don't matter cause we have the talent to do it. i mean common most of the stats arn't "huge" difference between us and tampa. it's just that we had so many blow outs at the beginning i can't wait for the new season. oh im really looking forward to the free agent signing frenzy we have so much cash

here is something very interesting for you to think about. the cheeseheads were ranked number 7.

their points per game are 21.5
and their points given up is 344

exact same as us, but they really didn't have blowouts like we did in the beginning and thier defense is ranked way higher. so if we skip the first few games our defense actually would have been ranked what? top 10? 5? makes you think doesn't it our second half defense rules.

We ranked three spots above the Giants D everyone was so impressed with when we played them.

But, the IF we played better the first half of the year is a scary thing. New coordinator, new system. Yes the talent is there, will the depth be there too? Will we have the people to implement his scheme? HIS version of the tampa two, which will be different than others? Who can say?

The thing that scares me, and makes me think we will be middle of the pack at very, very best, is we have 11 people learning a new scheme. Last year we had 6 or so learning a new scheme, and it took half the year. Add in injuries and all, and I say our D this year jells the last five games is all. Every team has talent. Continuity and knowing what the heck your doing can't be underrated....especially if you read our new DC's quotes about his system.

Reason the packers defense was ranked so high? Teams got ahead of them so quickly and easily all they had to do was run at them to run the clock out. When they had to punt, they'd just get it back anyways from a favre INT.

I had the defense ranked in the middle last season and was a little off. I still think they will be hovering around 15th this season and possibly a little better.
