Fowler isn't Pro Bowl material, but IMO isn't back up material either. Solid starter.

He is a decent stop gap player but he became expendable when we signed Whittle as our OL swing position.

Good pick up - did an alright job in a TOUGH situation....

Seemed to have a good attitude (but compared to the rest of the guys, that doesn't always say much).

    Re: Hey Vikes fans...

He will get the chance to be a full-time starter with you guys...something that he wouldn't be able to do in Minnesota with Birk coming back! Although I was actually hoping that he would start for us at RG...but after getting Hutchinson to fill the LG spot, maybe we are targeting an RG or RT in the draft (with Marcus Johnson playing the spot that the rookie doesn't fill...I hope that it is Marcus McNeill at RT and MJ at RG). Another option for us could be Stephen Neal from NE at RG and MJ at RT.

Anyway, I liked Fowler and thought that he was a valuable member of our OL...unfortunately, he became expendable. I wish him well in your team's organization!

Damn, that makes two former Vikes that we basically gave up draft picks for and got nothing in return. As you know, Fowler came over in a trade for former 4th round pick OT Nat Dorsey. Fowler was a 3rd round pick of the Browns in 2002. Earlier in the week, OG Toniu Fonoti, signed with the Buccaneers. Fonoti was acquired in a trade last year with the Chargers for the former 2002 2nd round draft pick. The Vikings relinquished this years 7th round pick in the draft to acquire Fonoti. My point in all this, we had some fairly decent talent that was newly acquired just last season and now they are gone with nothing in return to show for it. Does anyone know why these former first day draft picks didn't meet Coach Childress's measuring stick?

Odd, it seems, but that's just me!

    Welcome Weezer!

Melvin Fowler is solid and I definatley think he was better than Withrow.

Well keep in mine we also have to compare what we saw in Fowler to what we have seen with Birk.

He is by no means a Birk, But he will go a good starter for you guys. He struggled in the beginning but got much better near the end of the season. It was a good siging for you.

Best of luck to you next season.
