Why are you using a thread about Herrera getting extended to complain about Childress? I find that very annoying and way over the borderline of obsession.

it doesn't seem like that much they probably put some incentives in it to help the cap later and I like keeping the O-line together to develop.
I've liked Herrera's play so far and now three fifths of our line is here long term.
    Exactly.
When you have a guy playing next to stars like Birk and Hutchinson there will be no slacking off.
This is the type of core offensive line you can build a team around for a long time.
They will continue to grow together as a unit and be dominant for years.
    I like the move.
Especially in the offensive line, you need cohesiveness much more then you need the "best" or most dominant lineman in every spot.

    Re: Herrera signs extension

I never really saw Herrera as a full time starter until he stole the starting job from Hicks earlier this year. He's definitely outperformed Hicks so that's a plus for the future. He's basically one of those big maulers that you don't hear much about, although that's usually a good thing on the o-line. Hopefully he'll make some more strides and turn into one of those diamond in the rough type guys on the line.

Now we have Herrera for 5 years
    Hutch for another 6
    McKinnie for 7
Cook for 2 more after this year
Birk signed an eight year deal in 2001 so if I'm not mistaken he's an FA after this year.

I know people don't line Herrera but this has shored up the core of our o-line for at least a while. Finding a replacement for Birk is definitely going to be tough when the time comes. Hopefully he can sign an extension and he can help mentor a guy like Cook for when he retires.

It was still a very good post though.

I like the way the line is shaping up.

Lord knows I was on them pretty hard early on in the season.
Herrerra (regardless of what some think of him) has done a good job and the line is playing better since he won the job.

I am going to buy his Jersey (I only buy defensive player jersey's) now that I know he has a good chance of being around for a while.

I really believe that the improvement to the OL play can be attributed to Birk making better pre-snap reads/line calls and Herrerra's play at RG.

All I can say is, "You go Big Boyyyyyyyyyy"
Putting the jersey on order tonight as a Christmas present to me.

    ;D
    Did you really do this?

Thanks to Josdin for the awesome sig!

I can assure you that no Herrera jerseys have been manufactured that were not custom orders, chief.
