Re: Healthy draft picks will help Vikings win

Too bad Erasmus didn't look too good. However, with Edwards and Robison we are all of a sudden so deep at DE that we should be ok. Maybe Erasmus realizes that he doesn't have to do it all, he just has to stay healthy. Still, I want to see tsome explosion.

The return of Erasmus James to the field gives coach Brad Childress his full complement of top-drafted talent, something he hasn't had until now.

One reason I believe the Vikings will be much improved this year is that they should have all their recent first-round draft choices available....
Here is what analyst Michael Smith says about how important the NFL draft is to a teams success.
Smith "Paramount! You can't buy a championship team. Free agency, waiver wire and trading are only for adding missing pieces. You look at the best teams every year; Pats,Colts, Chargers, Ravens, all draft well every year. All the great dynasties in NFL history were home grown. Now, look at the worst teams in the league; Texans (before Kubiak), Browns, Redskins all have had poor drafts and traded away numerous picks. But the main reason the draft is the way to a winning franchise is, the all mighty dollar. Rookie contracts are more manageable and can keep you under the cap, so you can find those missing pieces in free agency."

Personally, I would be looking for a kicker, punter, and backup QB about now. But I believe Childress has drafted well and it will pay off.
What takes a quarterback to the next level is not arm strength or mobility or any of that stuff. Its the ability to play on critical downs. Manage third downs, or red zones or four-minute or two-minute situations"
