Vikings | Greenway likely to start training camp as a backup

Jeff Zulgad, of the Star Tribune, reports Minnesota Vikings rookie LB Chad Greenway will be used by Vikings at weakside linebacker. He likely will open training camp as backup to LB E.J. Henderson, but could assume starting role if Henderson is moved to middle.

He might start training camp as a back up, but it doesn't necessarily mean he will finish camp that way.

Re: Greenway likely to start training camp as a backup
I have mixed feelings on this. I really want him to start and make an impact, but at the same time, I don't want him to burn out or anything like that because he's used too early and is unprepared.
Also, mddn't another thread say Napo and Thomas were competing for MLB?WE CAN BUILD ON THIS!!!

In AP I trust

Re: Greenway likely to start training camp as a backup
I wouldn't be surprised if the only starts Greenway made this season were due to someone getting injured (brb, gonna go find some wood...). Leber is a lock for one position (so it would seem), Dontarrius and Napo are fighting for the middle, which leaves Greenway to battle EJ for the weak side LB position. If EJ progresses the way he has, it wouldn't surprise me if Greenway was 2nd string this season.
PM me if you'd like a sig.

Re: Greenway likely to start training camp as a backup
he's a rookie, they next to always go into camp as a back up, this isnt really news
like someone else said, it definatly doesnt mean he'll leave camp that way, and yes napo & dontarrius are fighting for MLB, but some coaches like EJ at that position, so we'll see how it all turns out

Re: Greenway likely to start training camp as a backup
This kinda always gets me mad. I think he should start at least in training camp just to get more playing time on the field and have more expiernece when it comes to game time. I hope he ends up and I think he will be the starter, but the man needs to learn the system!

Re: Greenway likely to start training camp as a backup
Perhaps...
they havent signed him yet...if he is listed at starter, he may want more money. so, they sign him and then he "wins" the starting position and we got him for a smaller contract
=)
just a thought...

Re: Greenway likely to start training camp as a backup
Maybe - however it still seems wrong that our first round pick.. who is here to cover a big need on the team, isnt a starter.. - But then again.. its just a good sign.. if EJ/Napo/Thomas has outplayed Greenway in minicamp..
