Re: Greenway hopes to start contract discussions soon

I don't care when they sign him, as long as it's before training camp.

What that tells me is that no one player clearly stood out & we will have a mediocre MLB.

Let's get the deal done, there is no excuse for a long holdout!

Agent doesn't expect Greenway to sign before wedding

Associated Press

MINNEAPOLIS - First-round draft pick Chad Greenway will probably get hitched before he suits up for the Minnesota Vikings.

Greenway's agent tells KSTP TV there's no chance the former University of Iowa star will sign before his wedding tomorrow.

Greenway's agent, Marvin Demoff, and the Vikings opened contract talks last Monday in Denver. Demoff characterizes the meeting as exploratory and constructive.

Greenway is a 242-pound linebacker from Mount Vernon, South Dakota. He led the Hawkeyes to two Big Ten titles in four years.

Rookies report to Vikings training camp on July 27th. Greenway's agent doesn't anticipate a holdout.

Interesting...this article breaks today...

Vikings | Greenway likely to start training camp as a backup
Thu, 13 Jul 2006 21:01:44 -0700

Jeff Zulgad, of the Star Tribune, reports Minnesota Vikings rookie LB Chad Greenway will be used by Vikings at weakside linebacker. He likely will open training camp as backup to LB E.J. Henderson, but could assume starting role if Henderson is moved to middle.
The article points out that Greenway is a backup to LB EJ Henderson. This comes at a time contract talks are going on. Is it an attempt to make the contract not a lucrative as if he had been mentioned as a starter?

It depends on whether you're visiting a proctologist or negotiating a contract.

Greenway seems like a good, fair guy. Im sure he will sign a good contract before TC and then earn the big bucks in 3-4 years after he proves himself  . And the MLB thing isnt good news unless we got so many good players(yeah right  ) that there isnt enough starting spots to go around.
