Good and bad ideas from Week 2
And look what's
The Minnesota Vikings faking a field-goal attempt and having placekicker Ryan Longwell throw a 16-yard touchdown pass to Richard Owens in the fourth quarter of their 16-13 overtime victory against the Carolina Panthers. The key to the success of this bold decision was that Paul Ferraro, the Vikings' special teams coach, was an assistant special teams coach for Carolina last season and was armed with a thorough understanding of all of the Panthers' kicking-game tendencies. Ferraro fully expected the Panthers to load up at the line of scrimmage to block the kick, as they did when Julius Peppers knocked down a field-goal attempt in the third quarter. And it would make perfect sense for the Panthers to assume that, in a close, low-scoring game, Minnesota would be going for the three points. Sure enough, there wasn't a Carolina player even close to Owens as the Vikings lined up for the fourth-quarter try. "They smelled blood in the water," Longwell said. But it was the Vikings who administered the shock and pain on that play.WE CAN BUILD ON THIS!!!
