getting a quality qb isnt going be easy

with the 8th pick the top 4 qbs can be gone bortles, bridgewater, manziel and carr
leaving garroppolo McCarron and mettenbeger....no one is going to trade up to 8th pick because the draft is deep at all position...look at mock drafts every team will be able to fill a need where they stand except us .all depends on how important a qb is to zim and the vikes moving up to 2nd pick may be our only option ...we will be giving up to much need all our pick ...sooo free agency is where we find a qb .

I have a feeling this years quarterback class will be a lot like last years, with one or two first rounders, and that's it.
There is a big difference between media 'experts' and real NFL talent evaluators.
Spielman will have a hard time reaching for a QB again so soon after being burned. I think he will take BPA at 8, and that won't be a QB.
Then he will take a QB in round two.
There are some real solid players available at 8. There are no solid QB's!

with the 8th pick the top seven qb's can be gone, but they won't be. It is highly unlikely that the top 4 will be gone but if they were that would be great. As none of them are a top 5 talent, that would leave 2 of the top 5 talented players available for us. That would put us in a fantastic position either setting up a trade or picking up a strong starter. I highly doubt it will happen but I would be stoked.

This is a more likely scenario. I have faith that Spielman will do a great job in this draft as he has in the last two. Personally I believe we are better off not taking a qb in round one. I just do not see 1st round talent there, I just hope we get a good one somewhere in this draft. We seem to be in a better position to develop a qb than we have been in many years.

I just have a hunch that Mettenberger is the target, for pick #40. Defense at #8 will be the play methinks.

Looks like a Norv type of QB to me… Zach Mettenberger 2013-14 Highlights - YouTube

I believe that Bortles is a first round talent. He has the prototypical size and arm for the position and he has a very strong presence in the huddle. He would be my choice if there is one QB left at our pick.

There s only two things stopping you - fear and common sense!! The Truth you CAN"T HANDLE THE TRUTH!!!!!!!!

Mettenberger, if his knee is ok, Garoppolo, or Boyd would all seem like good candidates for second or third round developmental QB's.
I also favor BPA at 8, which is likely to be defense and not a QB.
However, should Bridgewater or Bortles fall to 8, I would like to see them take the chance at QB.

Only problem is he isn't a good QB. He has done nothing his entire career. In fact I wager 6 months ago you had never heard of him. He is media created.

That is ridiculous. There are plenty of NFL ready quarterbacks that were not stellar in college ... and Bortles WAS stellar in college and played in a BCS conference and WON a BCS bowl. How is that doing "nothing." He was seventh in the nation in YPA and 9th in efficiency. Hardly "nothing."

Outside of Johnny Football (whom I love by the way) there are not many options in this draft that did more in the careers ... much less did more with as little as Bortles did.
