    Re: Frazier Promoted

    What is this?
    What does this mean?
I can assure you this is not a lack of faith in Childress.
Zygi isn't saying we will promote him if Childress fails.
Think about it. The failure has been on offense, not defense.
How does promoting Frazier improve offensive ineptitude?

It appears to be an affirmation of faith in Frazier as one of the best D coordinators in football available to the Vikings.
Frazier is not head coaching material now. But he will be in 2 to 3 years.

I remain a fan of Frazier.

But I didn't see Bevel promoted. That is telling to me.

Had I hit the lotto and gained control of the team. I would have brought in a talented offensive coordinator and made him the assistant head coach.

So I'm glad we are keeping Frazier. But he has room for improvement.
What takes a quarterback to the next level is not arm strength or mobility or any of that stuff. Its the ability to play on critical downs. Manage third downs, or red zones or four-minute or two-minute situations"

    Re: Frazier Promoted

I agree this is a smart move by the Vikes as it leasts shows and indicates to Frazier that his work has been recognised by the organisation. As stated earlier it now means that he can only be approached by other teams if they want him for a higher position ie HC and that he can't make a lateral move to another team as a DC. However I wouldn't see him leaving the Vikes for anything less than a HC job anyway so in that respect it changes nothing to stop him moving in the future should he wish to.

Course the conspiracy people on here may view this as him being positioned ready to step in should Childress fall on his face this season. Either way I'll take it as recognition for what he means to the organisation so far - Congrats Frazier !

Tomlin seems to be doing fine in Pittsburgh.

This move isn't to stop him from going lateral to another DC position, but to make him "feel" more important so he doesn't jump ship like Tomlin.

IMO, this promotion is a smart move by a very effective and successful businessman. It will help promote continuity within the organization (however you may want to describe that), as well as showing how highly the Vikings feel about Frazier, and in turn, Childress. Zygi understands what it takes to keep key people. And at the same time, he's subtly creating a situation where Childress knows he must improve...although he's safe for the time being.

EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn.—It's not quite the promotion Leslie Frazier was looking for, but he'll take it.
Minnesota Vikings coach Brad Childress added the title of assistant head coach to Frazier's role as defensive coordinator Wednesday....

Every leader has advisors, and Frazier and Childress seem to have a chemistry that balance each other pretty well. It's nice to see the stability the Wilf's are trying to create.

Again, the Wilf's didn't promote him, Childress did.
