Frazier; Peterson Coming To Camp Without New Contr

Adrian Peterson's contract situation will not prevent the All-Pro running back from reporting to Mankato on Sunday, Vikings coach Leslie Frazier said.
Asked Monday if Peterson gave him any assurances that he will report on time with or without a new long-term deal, Frazier said: "Oh yeah, we had a good conversation. And that's not an issue, and he's looking forward to camp like all of our guys are."
With the Vikings reportedly $5.1 million over the $120.4 million salary cap, the team is expected to work out a long-term contract with Peterson, who's in the final year of his rookie contract and has a monstrous salary cap number of $12.775 million. A long-term deal would lower the cap number and improve Peterson's comfort level.
Peterson and cornerback Antoine Winfield were among the first players Frazier talked to after the lockout was lifted. "Both of those guys, there was tremendous excitement in their voice," Frazier said. "Both feel like they're in the best shape of their lives."

tbh, I'd rather he hold out, but come back for another contract than be quiet and leave next season.

I think they were among the first talked to had to do with clearing cap space.
Both will likely receive new contracts. Winfield will likely need to take a cut to stay.

we can hardly afford to be giving ultimatums to defensive backs at this point.

Unless he's moved to nickel his cap hit is over 6 million.

but really, how much money do you think we'll have?
we're 4 mil over the cap. Kennedy accounts for 2.5, M-Will will be 3.5 if we cut him, that gives us now 2 mil to work with. Winfield frees up 6 more. However, we need WR, we need S, we need DL and OL. It just doesn't make sense to cut Winfield, when he's been one of our most consistent contributors on D. If he were playing poorly, then yes, it makes more sense, but that's not the case.
