Re: Former Vikes Coach says Running backs hold the answer
Good read!!
Actually i think Childress is just too stubborn to be that creative!!!
C'mon A.D. 10 carries 108 yds in first half in Packer game, and only touch ball 2 more times in 2nd half!!
That only tells me he is an idiot....
From my years of being a football fan, coaches usually feed the hot hand!!!
JMO!!!
You just dont leave your best offensive weapon on the sideline in crunchtime.....

IMO, that is the biggest thing that Childress lacks.Under these two former Vikings head coaches our offensive system had the versatility to adjust to the talent on our roster.

Re: Former Vikes Coach says Running backs hold the answer
Childress is just too smart to take advice from anyone, and too arrogant to admit there's something wrong with his system.
He is an offensive genius.

The word genius isn t applicable in football. A genius is a guy like Norman Einstein - Joe Theisman

Tice was versatile, but I think that was because he didn't know what the hell he was doing.
LOL!

Re: Former Vikes Coach says Running backs hold the answer
You would think with Childress having all the college experience, 17 years if my math is correct...
University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, running backs/wide receivers coach (1978–1984)
Indianapolis Colts, quarterbacks coach (1985)
Northern Arizona University, offensive coordinator (1986–1989)
University of Utah, wide receivers coach (1990)
University of Wisconsin-Madison, running backs coach, offensive coordinator (1991-1998)
Philadelphia Eagles, quarterbacks coach, offensive coordinator (1999–2005)
Minnesota Vikings, head coach (2006–Present)
...where a team is in constant transition and you have to continually adjust to player strengths this would carry over to the NFL, or is it in college that the players have to adjust to the coaching strengths?
Which in this case may explain a few things.

First Bud Grant chimes in and now an assistant under Mike Tice...
I wonder how this affects Chilly's ego having ex coaches offering their advice to the media.

Would have been nice if the actual NAME of the coach was in the article anyplace.I forgot to add that this is an excellent article by a former Viking's coach with some very good ideas. (At least they sound that way to me.)
So, after doing some research, I see that the coach in question is Dean Dalton.
Under his brilliant leadership (the 4 seasons he spent as the Vikings' RB coach) the Vikings were:
2005:
27th in total rushing, 24th in rushing TDs
2004:
18th in total rushing, 29th in rushing TDs
2003:
4th in total rushing, 12th in rushing TDs
2002:
1st in total rushing, 2nd in TDs
http://www.pro-football-reference.com/teams/minindex.htm
So, basically, in the first year, after he inherited Denny Green's personnel, he kept the RBs at the top of the NFL.
And then, his awesome coaching slowly drained all of the life from the Vikings running attack until they were bottom of the NFL barrel when he was fired along with the rest of Tice's staff.
Of course, all of the incompetents become brilliant once they actually don't have to produce results.

Because this FIRED coach who FAILED in a rather horrific way over the span of 4 years now believes HE knows how to "fix" things?
Yeah, okay, dude!
