Rookie first-round draft pick Sharrif Floyd is expected to miss the rest of the preseason because of a "minor procedure" on his left knee, Vikings coach Leslie Frazier said after practice today.

So if the MRI showed nothing, why did he undergo surgery? To fix nothing?

They said procedure not specifically surgery.more than likely either a cortisone or a rooster comb injection.

    It isn't surgery.

Frazier said the procedure wasn't arthroscopic surgery. He said it was just a minor procedure to ease the pain at the front of the knee. Floyd hurt the knee in the preseason opener on Aug. 8.
It is more likely something to address pain and swelling, like corticosteroid injections, or supplementing the lubrication fluids in the knee. Both are injections directly into the joint, and would probably keep someone out the remaining week and a half of preseason.

EDIT: PF beat me to it while I was reading other posts.

Huh, I wonder where I could have possibly gotten the "he had an operation/surgery" idea from?

    link?

seriously i looked around right away and saw nothing that specifically said surgery but later thing did pop up but i think it was people just re posting speculation to get web hits. if you read the original statement there is nothing that says surgery.

but if you wish i can throw out a tweet saying he had an emergency exorcism and we can see what that gets spun into.

Yeah, Vikings.com, ESPN, FOX, etc. They were just posting speculation. Can't trust what you read on Vikings.com, ESPN or FOX sports.

And out of those 3 in the actual write up surgery is mentioned 2 or 3 times in each or is it more like once in the last one.... and that would be Fox...own by Rupert Murdoch, isn't he the Saint of Truth and Fairness. Not that any of that really matters Floyd's had more preseason action than Peterson and should be back in a week or 2 so I'd chalk it up to panty wadding over nothing at this point. Pretty sure the Vikings or Steelers aren't gassing coaches or GM over the first 2 weeks or even 3rd of the preseason and the Bills and Browns aren't printing their playoff tickets yet

Swelling of the knee after the Buffalo game despite previous normal MRI, led to Floyd missing the next practice and undergoing a procedure to relieve pain in the anterior knee.
The most likely procedure would be draining fluid from the knee and injecting cortisone after the fluid is drained.
Resting Floyd's knee for one week would be standard. An additional week of rest before the regular season would seem prudent, though I expect he will be at practice the week before the opener.
However, should the knee swell again, they may want to take another look with a repeat MRI. MRI's are fantastic, but occasionally miss things.
If the knee is sound, Floyd is going to be one of the defensive studs this year, from what I've seen.
