It's not one thing that has plagued the inconsistent Vikings this season, and that's the problem. Here are five suggestions on what to fix when the team returns from its bye week.

"Orton did a good job of recognizing who was coming, calling out the (middle) linebacker," Winfield said. "Watch the TV copy, and you could hear him call who was coming. They kind of knew what we were in."

Part of the problem may be the transition at middle linebacker from E.J. Henderson to newly signed Napoleon Harris. Strong-side linebacker Ben Leber has worn the helmet that communicates with defensive coaches. Harris should take over that duty as he reacquaints himself with the Vikings' defense.
Some yutz on here was saying how our D exposes their intent/play call way to early and that was long before EJ went down my friends.

I sure hope Chilly takes Frazier with him when he goes.

Mar, your link didn't work for me. This one did:

As for Frerotte, the Vikings should empower him to use his vast experience. Kyle Orton certainly seemed to be doing that Sunday, and controlling coach Jon Gruden even gives veteran Jeff Garcia that latitude in Tampa Bay.

The Vikings seek Frerotte's input on the game plan. But he is limited to changing the direction of a run, not changing a run to a pass.
I can't say I like that last bit at all. In this league, you have to let your QB adjust to what he sees going on out there. There was a play in the bears game where we were in a short yardage situation, and the Bears moved all three of their linebackers toward the middle. You could tell that at least two of them were coming, if not all three. I saw it coming. My wife saw it coming. Everyone in the room saw it coming. Gus had to have seen it. The Vikings ran a draw straght into the blitz...for a loss. That kind of play absolutely calls for an audible to a screen or a hot route in the slot of some kind. Get somebody into the middle of the field where defense vacated.

I think Childress not letting Frerotte make changes from the line is a perfect example of his stubbornness and idiocy.

Didn't work for me either but I assume it read something like

    1. Fire Childress
    2. Fire Childress
    3. Fire Childress
    4. Fire Childress
    5. Some random point about Special Teams.

Its not hard to call out the MLB regardless of scheme so I have no idea what Winfield is talking about. QB's are taught since HS to recognize the MLB and call him out. In fact if you cant look at the formation and call him out you have no buisiness being a QB let alone a QB in the NFL.

You know what all the QB's or centers are pointing at right before the snap....the MLB.

So that suggestion is garbage imo. They will know where you are and probably even the one or two things you are assigned to do during that formation. Point is when you make contact you have to win. End of story. There will be contact if you lose the individual battle then that is on you.
If you promise to be smarter, I will promise to be nicer.

My posts are worth 6 of yours.

Yeah ... I was kind of surprised the big deal people were making of this. The announcer even said something like listen to Orton call out the MIKE ... he knows what is coming.
Lol ... just because he knows where the MLB is does not mean he knows what is coming. Hell, I can spot the MLB pre-snap on EVERY play.
