Well, they ARE pointless and a waste of time.
They cannot be validated in anyway, and too easily corrupted.
I could write a bot in less than an hour to continuously spam the site with hundreds of thousands of generated names and email addresses.
(Actually I could push it into the millions, but then it would be obvious that it was fake...)

That is common knowledge right along with the idea of the "Forward this to everyone you know or it will die" email spam scam and yet our inboxes are flooded with them daily.
