Re: Field Goal over a TD?

i like our decision, because if we would have ran it we would have probably gotten the ball stripped because that would have been what the packers did to try and get the ball.

so im happy with the outcome because we won.

Re: Field Goal over a TD?

I cannot even believe this is a thread. You absolutely do not want to score a touchdown at any point there. You want the last play of the game to be a kick through the uprights. IT IS A TIE GAME AND A FIELD GOAL WINS IT AND KEEPS THE OTHER TEAM OFF THE FIELD!
We had this same situation last season against the Lions and Moe scored and left over a minute on the d@mn clock instead of going down. The Lions came right down the field and scored (and of course botched the extra point) and should have gotten to overtime. If we had just kicked in that case it would not have been in doubt either.
It was a 27-yard field goal down the middle of the field with no wind ... it is a no-brainer. If you run it that first play and he gets in ... boom the Pack has at least two timeouts and nearly a minute left, instead you WON the game without giving them the ball at all.
Go for the touchdown? Are you kidding? As Herman Edwards said ... "You play to win the game" that is how you WIN in that situation

A Moore TD would have gotten me the win in fantasy and into a 3-way tie in my division. Instead, I'm eliminated from playoff contention.

But I don't care, because we won!!!

Re: Field Goal over a TD?

The field goal was the right move IMO, it would have really nice to see Koren get in on that pass however we didn't leave anything to chance which was a good move. So no I do not think we should have run the ball, it was the right decision, as much as it pains me to say, it looks like Tice is starting to understand his roll. I am not sure if that will translate into another year of coaching in purple or not, however it looks like the players love the guy, so who knows. I always have ripped on Tice for bone-headed calls, however I have to give him props when he earns them, and he has definitely earned them in the last 2 weeks!!

    Cheers!

A TD would have been nice, but like earlier posts, with the score and our field position, the field goal was the smart play.

I wouldn't have cried if they had run it a few times. Would have been the exact same result with time unless we did in fact score. In that case we are up 7 with less then a minute to go so the odds are still in our favor.

The risks for trying the TD were more then the FG though so I think they played it right. No chance for a kick return for a TD no chance for Favre to bomb the ball no chance for them to stop the clock.

Only a chance for them to have every ounce of hope slowly squeezed from them as our over aged QB took a knee in the middle of the field lining up the game winner.

There was no need to go for a TD at all. You're in position to kick a game winning FG, you make GB take their remaining time outs and burn some more of the clock.. then stop it with a few seconds remaining.. put it thru the uprights.. end of game.

Was anyone other than me going nuts when Johnson took a knee in order to go for the kick rather than at least running 3 times for a TD? Moore was getting 8-10 yards a pop, and I thought it was a no brainer.

I think odds point to a lot less that can go wrong by running (fumble) rather than kicking (fumbled snap, high snap, blocked, miss).
Perfect call from Tice...run the clock all the way down and get out with a field goal...stop second guessing a very good call and get back on the bandwagon!

Just imagine if we did run it and a fumble happened to occur? I think there would be a major reason to be pissed then. No need for nitpicking, it was the right call, we won, now let's beat the Browns.
