Oh, you mean he isn't a guarantee to play next season? A week ago the general consensus around here was that he was coming back for at least a year (2 years according to some). You'd think this is something that the coaching staff probably knew about a week ago before the draft; Yet we still continue to ignore the QB situation. Don't worry though because Tarvaris Jackson is REALLY ready this time. Can't wait for another season of jump passes and 10-6...
Because we all knew he needed surgery right?
All signs pointed to him returning at that time. He never announced his retirement, he's a competitor on a great team who went too far to not take another shot at it, and was presumably healthy.
More importantly: We don't know what kind of surgery we're dealing with yet. I have to assume it won't have much of an effect on his game if it took this long to come out. I bet it's minor surgery that the press is going to blow up to create their favorite off-season activity: Favre speculating.
If he had his shoulder operated on last year and still returned, I can't see an ankle injury keeping him out.

Re:Favre Must Undergo Ankle Surgery to Play in 2010
So Childress finds out his information from an ESPN reporter? Or he knew about this and still didn't address the QB situation when the best pro-ready QB fell to him in the 2nd round? Whether it's stupidity, or pure ignorance, he couldn't have handled the situation any worse.
"Maybe I was dreaming or something like that," Childress said. "I think I saw a commercial of Favre -- maybe it was just me going forward -- of winning the MVP award 10 years from now. Maybe it was just seeing a lot of tape lately. Might have been dreaming."
Sorry Rick! Keep up the good work.

This thread should take off like wildfire. Can't wait to see where it goes.“What takes a quarterback to the next level is not arm strength or mobility or any of that stuff. It’s the ability to play on critical downs. Manage third downs, or red zones or four-minute or two-minute situations"

Re:Favre Must Undergo Ankle Surgery to Play in 2010
Is everyone forgetting about the report that came out before the draft? Steve Mariucci (Favre's first QB coach in Green Bay) talked with him and already knew how bad his ankle was.
http://www.startribune.com/sports/vikings/91876114.html
"He doesn't know yet," Mariucci said when asked if Favre will return. "He's trying to heal up. His body is recovered except for that ankle. That's not quite ready yet. It's an ankle that he had surgery on twice before and it's still pretty puffy. You remember he came out of that game with the ankle and went back in, but it's still swollen.
"He's trying to determine: Is his body telling him something here? Or is he going to be feeling better in due time. He still hasn't made up his mind, and the Vikings are not rushing him. That's what's a little bit crazy about it. I thought maybe they'd say, 'Listen, could you tell us by draft day please so we could determine where we're going to go?'
Sorry Rick! Keep up the good work.

I pray this isn't actually a Lisfranc injury to the forefoot just in front of the ankle. That would require open reduction with internal fixation screw, and three months in a boot.jargomcfargo wrote:

Lisfranc injuries are often missed on initial xrays.“What takes a quarterback to the next level is not arm strength or mobility or any of that stuff. It’s the ability to play on critical downs. Manage third downs, or red zones or four-minute or two-minute situations"

Re:Favre Must Undergo Ankle Surgery to Play in 2010
At this point we know virtually nothing, or any collaboration. Crap was leaked last year on Favre that proved false.
We all knew there was a ankle problem, we also know Favre will have the BEST taking care of it.
What I do like about it is it's a choice and not a flat out statement of Favre not playing in 2010.
Anyway drafting a rookie wouldn't help this year anyway, playing him would probably hurt. Thus, rookie or not we would be in the same situation for this year without Favre.
Who knows what lies ahead.
