Favre admits that they needed help last year to get into the
playoffs.. Scroll down to get to Favre's interview.
Q: Is this what keeps you coming back every year, the juice with coming back to the playoffs and a chance to get to the Super Bowl?
A: This is what you play for. It took me many years to figure that out. As you get older you realize that some of the things you thought were important were not quite as important. I'm just lucky that I'm still around playing to appreciate this part of the game because this year and last year really kind of opened my eyes to how difficult it is to get to the playoffs and how we got there. So to appreciate it would be an understatement. Last year we needed help, although we had to help ourselves to a certain degree. We got that and got into the playoffs, and almost did something with it this year, to start 1-4. To get there is amazing, but it's what you do with it once you get in. Some teams are just happy to be in, and some teams won't settle for that. This is what it's all about. As bad off as our season had looked at times, we're in the playoffs. I know all of that can be forgotten if you go somewhere with this, and that's what we're trying to do. But yeah, this is what it is all about.

Yet another "Anti-Viking Pro-Packer" issue laid to rest...
The silence is deafening...

Almost as bad as the Favre issue they keep dodging....

there is a difference between backing in to the playoffs and needing help to get in to the playoffs. we could have finished 10-6, winning our last 4 games and not getting in to the playoffs last season. you guys lost 7 out of your last 10 and finished 8-8. thats the difference.
i admit we needed help to get in to the playoffs which was bullshit to begin with simply because both the pack and vikes destroyed seattle. however we certainly did not back in to the playoffs and if you ask any packer player about backing in to the playoffs, they would say it wasnt the case last season.
winning your last 4 contests and finishing 10-6 isn't backing in to the playoffs, as much as you guys think it is, it isnt.

The difference is semantic.
Fact is, had we NOT lost the last game last season, Green Bay was sitting home. You had just as many opportunities to win as we did - and do every year - but didn't do it when it counted enough to control your own fate. In short, you backed in to the Play-Offs.
This year, we slid in the same way. We needed somone else to lose for us to get in...just like you last season.
How you got to that point is immaterial. Citing your final games as the judging criteria is pretty convenient...how about looking at the first 5 instead? Let's make THAT the criteria.
Fact is, neither one is. It's based upon the entire season. And, last season Green Bay didn't get it done on their own...just like the Vikes this year.
So, as much as you may not like hearing it...You BACKED IN to the Play-Offs last season.

Yeah, beating Denver's 4th stringers last year was pretty tough to get into the playoffs wasn't it!

First off, you did not slide in to the playoffs like we did. You lost your last
few ball games, we won them.
Second, going in to week 17, we needed people to lose to get in to the playoffs, you guys did not.
Third of all, sliding in to the playoffs does not include the first 5 games of the season...Sliding in to the playoffs includes losing your last couple games and has absolutely nothing to do with your first 5 games.
Needing help and sliding in to the playoffs are 2 completely different
things.
Also, how is beating a Washington team that has nothing to play for any different than beating a 4th string Denver team? You have to win the game regardless.

Your right.
I don't consider the Pack as backing into the playoffs last year.
(how can you back into the playoffs as the division champ?)
It sucks being 8-8.

Now you're being stupid.
Play-Off entry is determined by the cumulative record of each team during the regular season...the beginning counts just as much as the end.
If it was figured YOUR way, we could just eliminate the first 4-6 weeks, and start counting around week 7 to see who got in and who sat home.
So, SLIDING in, BACKING in...whatever...same thing...it all boils down to YOU DO NOT CONTROL YOUR OWN FATE.
If your team doesn't control it's own destiny...if you need "help"...if you're praying that someone else loses so you can get in...then you BACKED IN.
Clear now?
