Re: Evaluating the Vikings roster of 2009

I pretty much agree with what you've put and my 2c is that a solid FB does make a difference because it gives the O a differenet look and the D one more thing to think about.

If Phil Loadholt has improved on his first step issue then by all reports he just has to stand up and he'll block most of the left end of their D, I think if he improves too much he could alter the axis of the earth if he steps too quickly.

It would have been interesting to see the poll if QB hadn't been a choice and I was quite surprised to see that some of you think we have bigger issues.

    Thanks for your input.
Did Liverpool collect any hardware this past season?

Beating Man U at Old Trafford is better than any Carling or FA cup.

Hahahaha I didn't even realize Chelsea won the FA cup. Although bragging about winning the 3rd most prestigious cup they were in competition for is like bragging about a participation ribbon.

Congratulations on having the squad depth to win a tournament in which the big four usually test formations and blood their youth players.

Re: Evaluating the Vikings roster of 2009

    Some random thoughts...

To me its all about the OL.
I can't say now whether C or RT is the bigger question, cuz we haven't seen a lick of Sully and Load in action.
Whether they end up being improvements goes a long, long, long ways toward an overall offensive improvement!!
To me, the rest of the offense has improved...

    QB?
Go read 700 pages of BF and 600 pages of TJ, nuff said.

    BF is going to happen.
We resigned Sage after trying to trade for him for years...he'll stay, and to me sounds a lot better than Gus, Brooks, Kelly etc!!
Jackson, IMHO, looked great in those few games late last season, showing enough improvement, that he remains our best option if BF goes down.
Hopefully Booty will make it to the PS...he'd have to have miraculous improvement to beat any of the other 3 out.

    WR & TE?
Harvin has gamebreaking ability, and we've seen proof of improvement in BB, BW, VS, etc with time in the system.
IF we can get one of our young guys to step up we may be looking at a really, really nice WR core.
Bobby Wade has led our team in catches for two years straight.
He's not real flashy, but he is pretty dang reliable.
It'll be friggin tough for one of the young guys to beat him out...even though most of them are faster.

FB doesn't look like a priority at all, or we would have kept Tony.
He's easily worth the 2.5 mill/year and that still isn't much in the grand scheme of things.
Tahi has done nothing good with the ball in his hands...blocker only.
(Too bad the pack got Quinn!)

RB is already awesome but did add some big play ability in Harvin.

Adding 20 or 30 plays to utuilize the Harvin and Favre should add some much needed zest to our simple, smashmouth gameplan.
All in all, I think this offense could be really, really fun to watch!!
    ;D

IF our defense can stay healthy, we should be improved with our returning injured starters.
I like Madieu and Tyrell, but I'm nervous about our depth at S after them.
    The suspension suspense sucks!!
Obviously, we are much better with the Williams.
But, EJ is pretty dang good vs. the run too, as are Winny and Griff.
IF Kennedy, Evens, and Guion step up a bit, we might be OK vs. the likes of DET, CLE, SF, and possibly GB....as long as we don't let the Mighty Quinn surprise our LBs.

OR, more improtantly, our offense doesn't just fizzle!!

Control the line, control the time, and give your D a chance to shine!!

QB. Unless we do sign Farve. All we need is an average QB and Farve is that. And hes an ex Jet, i forget what team he played for before then.

    Long snapper is our demise.
    Sign Houser, the ponzi schemer.

Re: Evaluating the Vikings roster of 2009

Yesterday, I finally brought myselft to watch the playoff game from last year. My biggest fear is that our defense is overated. The Eagles sliced through them easily. Poor tackling and they couldn't stop the slant pass. (What a surprise :)

Poor special teams and TJ's performance was the nail(s) in the coffin.
I've been a Viking fan since I was just out of diapers, hopefully we get Super Bowl win before I go back in 'em.
