look at it this way. he lost his job. and he came back to do kickoffs for us.

that tells me he has some heart as well as balls.
Maybe he can go play for the Packers and you can cheer for him there.
not sure how you meant that to come out. but it seemed kind of rude.

i just saw a whole page bashing elling and i thought id chime in and say something nice about the kid. reading some of his quotes in the paper, it really seems like he has the heart and desire to come back. he obviously beleives he now has the talent to make a difference, otherwise he wouldnt be making such positive statements. i am not opposed and closed minded enough to think he doesnt have another shot. right now, our choices are limited anyways. you can always speculate "oh, the bears are gonna release.." or "the colts are gonna release.." but elling is who we have now. he had a rough start and tice yanked him. but elling came back and did kickoffs. i just thought that showed a little character.
Yeah, you are right...he is showing some character...I should cut him some slack...maybe he will turn out to be a good kicker after all...he does deserve a second chance to prove us all wrong. If he does, you can be the first to say "I told you so" and I will be ready to eat crow with the rest of the bashers (just make sure to season mine up real good with Cajun spices)!

"I don't foresee us bringing somebody in just to bring somebody in," Tice said. "If it isn't broke, don't fix it. That's the way I'm going to look at it. Right now, it isn't broke and he's hitting the ball real well. If it starts to look like it's getting broke, then we're going to have to fix it."

Elling made the only field-goal attempt of minicamp, a 27-yarder, and looked strong in hitting two of his four kickoffs to the goal line with good hang time Sunday.
He's hitting the ball well, but only attempted one field goal and that was 27 yards

"When his body language wasn't good, he didn't kick the ball well," Tice said. "Now he seems very relaxed, calm and confident. I have a lot of faith in him."
The thing that worries me is does this quote mean that if we get half way throw the season and he misses a couple, his head will drop again and his kicking will suffer.

I hope the guy succeeds but he doesn't fill me with confidence
My head is spinning round, I don t know what to do...

One thing is certain...we can't have a kicker that loses games for us...we will need to win the close ones to contend for the championship...otherwise, we go home early again...remember 1998...we were a kick away from the Super Bowl...and we went home empty-handed...I don't want that feeling again!!!

After much thought hence the following well thought post

Elling taking the only job that was offered to him, doesn't show me he has balls. He did what he had to, to get paid. He had no other choice. Why do you think he punted for the titans in 1 game? TO GET PAID.

Elling needs to earn any respect, and so far all he has done is given us feul to bash him. Once he actually does well during the season, then he deserves some credit, but not during mini camp, when he kicked one 27 yard FG good.

He choked in preseason last year for pete's sake, PRESEASON. He doesn't have the self confidence to be a kicker in the NFL.

I dont call it heart, I call it having to pay the bills.
Personally, I like Elling better than Cortez and definitely better than Mort, we will have to wait and see though. If Nichols can show poise and/or Edinger is available it might be time to go in a different direction.
The Bears did bring in Nick Novak of Maryland to compete for the job, so I fully expect Edinger to get the axe ...

elling doesnt have heart when he came back because he came back to pay the bills? please..

if he didnt have heart, he would've gotten a different job. the guy would have gotten a job at a place where he wouldnt get embarrased in nation tv. its not like kickers make 3 million a year. he can get another job.

but he has come back a few times. he's showing that he does have heart, he does have desire, he does beleive he has what it takes. does he have what it takes? dont know. but neither does anyone else.

Having seen the last few years of what Elling and Cortez are capable of I'd rather have Nichols or bring in Edinger.

wow.. i didnt think u guys would hate him so much... i mean, he screwd up in a pre-season game and every coach yelled at him, and he felt like the whole team was on his shoulders...

i think he will do not good next year, but awsome... u can yell at me or say how u disagree but so far, my guess is just as good as yours...
