Re: Elling to get another chance

Although this paints a different picture or our interest in nugent.

KAPALUA, HAWAII -- The Vikings' active foray into free agency is unlikely to include one position that has troubled them for three seasons. After surveying the few veterans available, the Vikings have decided to look elsewhere in their search for a placekicker.

The Vikings will not sign a free-agent kicker, Vice President of Football Operations Rob Brzezinski said Sunday. That decision means the Vikings either will draft a kicker or give Aaron Elling one final chance to earn the job in training camp.

Although internal draft meetings haven't begun, the team has paid special attention to Ohio State kicker Mike Nugent -- a rare kicking prospect who has been projected as a second- or third-round draft pick in the April draft.

Whether or not Nugent lands in Minnesota, the Vikings appear set on bringing Elling to camp this summer. Elling, the team's primary kicker in 2003, lost his job last summer and saw his stint as a kickoff specialist end after seven games because of a broken ankle.

The team is also likely to re-sign kickoff specialist Jose Cortez if neither Elling nor a drafted kicker wins the job. That could lead to veteran Morten Andersen teaming with Cortez; the Vikings, however, would prefer not to carry a kickoff specialist on their 53-man roster.

    Elling to get another chance

Why doesn't Cortez kick field goals and PAT? Seems like he has a strong leg,is he that inaccurate/inconsistent?
It looks like we are keeping Darren Bennett as our punter, can he be counted on to back up our kicker in case of injury?

    Elling to get another chance

Cortez was a good kicker for the 49ers. He missed a few field goals and lost confidence, and soon after his job. Im in Oregon and Cortez lives in Oregon as well, driving UPS trucks. So in this part of the NFL world I get alot of 49er and Raider games...I remember Cortez being good at first then tailing off.

The Colts have 2 good kickers and I dont see them both being on the team week 1 of the season. The Vikings may need to get one of those guys.

This news leads us to believe that the Vikings are targeting Ohio State kicker Mike Nugent in the draft. Head coach Mike Tice has been infuriated by the kicking game throughout his tenure, so it's hard to imagine he's willing to roll the dice on Elling again, especially when the third-year kicker is returning from a significant injury.

And this leads me to believe Aaron Elling has naked pics of Tices wife. What the hell is he still doing on the team? Why does Tice like him so much?

Didn't Elling play in Europe to improve in the offseason?

    Elling to get another chance

Oh please God tell me this not true. He might be able to miss a barn! If he was inside it!

If he does come back here is one thing you will not see too often

If Nugent is gone, there are several other decent kickers that we draft on Day 2. For instance, Yelk from Iowa State. He ain't great, but he ain't bad.
It aint the years honey, it s the mileage..

If we pass on nugent in round 2, look for miami to take him with the #2 pick in round 3. They fel in love with him at the senior bowl. Then they will release mare, who they haven't been too happy with in the past few years. If that happens, we better get him then, cause even a struggling mare is better than elling. How many chances does elling get?

Miami has the #4 in the 3rd because of the Lamar Gordon/Ogunleye-Booker trade.

But still, that's before us. ops:

Yeah, I forgot about that. My bad. Still, they want him and will snatch him in the 3rd, if we pass on him at 49. Is Mare good enough for us?
